Retrofit a koni insert into a coilover body

Has anyone done this?? I was thinking i could take the old stuff out and slide in a koni strut into the threaded body.

If you scroll down a bit to the blue shock bodied pictures, that has konis in custom shock bodies made by someone on this forum. I believe someone has, I saw pictures once, chopped up a cheap set of coilovers and put the koni inserts in them. It didn't look too good in my opinion and those blue shock bodies looks like a much cleaner setup.

I would like something where i can adjust preload and lower it without affecting the piston travel. I have to see what size the piston in my coilover are and see if koni offers any inserts in that size.

Ok so ive been thinking about it and i think ill do it when my coilovers blow.

The plan is to buy 4 front s13 koni inserts and retrofit them into the coilovers. The reason I want to buy 4 front inserts is because it looks like the rear strut is the same as the front strut on my coilovers just with a different mount.

Anyone know if konis are valved specifically for the fronts and rears?
