Our cars run from the the fuel maps and timing and other variables that are burned into the eprom located in the ECU's. JWT takes those maps and optimizes them more for performance then from the factory, they also take away the top speed limiter and raises rpm limits if need be. They also take into account the mods you have done and then re-burn the eprom and give it back to you to install and enjoy. They are the best at this so they charge a good chunk of money, if I was gonna get one it would be one of the last things I get so I wouldn't have to send it back to get re-burned every time I buy a mod. If you want an ecu they are your only good choice IMHO, even if you want piggy-back controllers also. You could try buying a eprom burner (they sell on ebay) and burning your own ecu if your crafty like that.
