there's nothing wrong with the stock one

that being said, spacing it out really helped me find a more comfortable seating position

Also, is it just me or is the stock wheel not perfectly round?

Kinda bothered me, and it's too far forward, and also probably worn out to shit.

(dont mind the automaticness, it's being taken care of)

The stock steering wheel being so close to the dash is uncomfortable to me. With my wheel spaced like this I can have a more comfortable seating position (for me). But I mean in reality there probably isnt any performance benefit over stock. The stock s chassis steering wheel is decent, much better than other cars.

It's not about being obese/ not obese. People get quick releases to make it easier to get out of their cars, if they have a roll cage, seat with large bolsters, etc. Some people do it for security, but as has been stated a billion times on this forum, that's not effective.

You know, I've come to the conclusion that my beater piece of shit '88 Celica was more advanced than I thought. Slow, no heat, no A/C, but the headlights would shut themselves off when you got out of the car and it had tilt and (here's where this comment is relevant) telescopic steering.

Want the wheel closer? Go buy spacers and hubs and adapters? Nope. *click* *pull* *click* Done.

I honestly wonder why more cars don't have telescoping steering wheels.

You know, the C5 Z06 doesn't have a telescopic wheel either... one of the things that pisses me off the most about that otherwise very well thought out car.

The C6 corrected that problem, but you can't replace the seat or steering wheel in a C6 without a million airbag warnings, which put the car in 'limp' mode.

Just sayin', if my 20-year old Celica had it, it should be more common. It sure would be nice. :p The mechanism wasn't any more complicated than the tilt; just flip a lever, pull the wheel out, put the lever back.

And no tilt is terrible. I drove (...valet parked) a Boxster once and couldn't, for the life of me, figure out how to adjust the seat or steering wheel. The lady who owned it was 5'nothing", I had to drive it like an 18-wheeler :(

Tsk tsk tsk you behd boiii you didn't know what cockpit from what FR chassis it's from? :ghey:

To be honest, if I woulda second-guessed myself I'm pretty sure I could've sworn it was an MKIV Supra.

I'm running OEM baby! And anyone who knows of a place where I can re-leather/re-upholster my stock steering wheel, shoot me a PM. I have a JOEM S14 steering wheel that's had a couple chunks scraped off.

in a 240, it wont make a fundamental difference whether you have airbags or not; the design is not the same is in newer cars. plus there is no point in having a harness without a cage/roll bar; its just not safe

sidewayzsx
02-02-2009, 08:44 AM
actually harness is really really safe talking from experience. i had harness with out cage or bucket seats. douche bag hits me head on going 60 my car was bend and i spinned in air twice my dash was on my lap thats how far it came in and harness saved my ass.

Well my friends.. I think I may have the most amazing set up out there... In fact, I would be willing to wager that it is the most horrendous wheel ever :tweak:

This is what came on my car... the black areas were originally silver (to match the beautiful silver accents of the shift boot and interior)... I painted it black for good measure... but there is no salvaging such a hideous contraption.

I don't understand why people are pissing and moaning about this thread being retarded.

I get the fact that yes there is already an interior thread.... so in a way this sutff could be included in that thread.

I don't however see how you think this thread is in anyway going to help someone steal that stearing wheel. Almost all the steering wheels in this thread are on quick releases which means the people take them out of the car. I have a trunk I can lock with a key and that can not be opened any other way whenever i go anywhere i lock the wheel in the trunk.

Firestorm

How closer to you is this setup compared to stock location?

should be about 2 inches. the dished wheel also makes it easier to get in the seat.

about the red center console: the previous owner painted it that way and i didn't bother to paint it since i got the car. besides, i wouldn't be able to hit the original color so that would mean i'd have to re-paint the entire center console. i already thought about swapping it to a new one but it's kinda hard to source RHD parts here in germany.
