General rules

First time participants should remember to bring a Snell rated SA95 or 2000 helmet. Loaner helmets will not be available!

NO Passengers will be permitted!!!

General track rules

1. All drivers must attend the drivers meeting in the morning.

2. All drivers must use a Snell approved SA 2000 or above helmet. No exceptions

3. Any driver that drifts the course will receive a black flag. If any driver continues to drift, they will be asked to leave for the rest of the day.

4. ALL vehicles must pass tech in order to drive on the course.

4AG Time Trial Format

*All drivers must be intermediate/Advanced only
* All cars must run a Toyota 1.6 engine of any variation.
Class 1-Street Tire class
Tires DOT tire with a tread rating of 120 or higher
Engine Forced induction is not permitted in this class
Class 2-Race Tire class
Tires DOT tire with a tread rating of 120 or lower
Engine Open to all 4ag variations

S13/S14 Time Trial Format

*All drivers must be intermediate/Advanced only
Class 1-Street class (N/A KA motors only)
Tires DOT tire with a tread rating of 120 or higher
Engine Forced induction is not permitted in this class. All cars must use factory KA motors.
Suspension Open
Class 2-Forced induction class
Tires DOT tire with a tread rating of 120 or lower
Engine Open

4WD Time Trial Format

*All drivers must be intermediate/Advanced only
*Fastest 4WD car wins. This group is limited to advance drivers only. All drivers must be approved before entering this run group.
Class 1-All modifications open
Tires Open
Engine Open
Suspension Open

1.6-1.8 Time Trial Format

*All drivers must be intermediate/Advanced only
Class 1-Street class
Tires DOT tire with a tread rating of 120 or higher
Engine All cars must be factory equipped 1.6-1.8 4 cylinder engines. Forced inductions in not permitted.
Suspension Open

*Please specify which day and which run group you would like to run in when paying for the event.

Group A-Grip 101 Intro class to driving on the track
Group B-Novice 2-3 times on the track
Group C-Intermediate 3-5 times on the track
Group D-Advanced 6+ times on the track
Sundays run groups

Group A-S13/S14 2 classes. * see sidebar for classifications
Group B-4AG group 2 classes. * see sidebar for classifications
Group A-4WD class 2 classes. * see sidebar for classifications
Group D-1.6-1.8 class 2 classes. * see sidebar for classifications

Schedule:
7 a.m. Gates open, all drivers should arrive and have their vehicles ready for tech.
8:30 a.m. Brief drivers meeting -- MANDATORY!
Tech inspection lines close.
9:00 a.m. First driving session begins, groups rotating every 20 minutes.
3:00 p.m. Time Trials Begins
5:00 p.m. Event ends

Flags

GREEN The course is Hot. Your session begins
YELLOW
There is an incident in front of you. proceed with Caution
RED This flag means a major incident has happened, that will require an emergency vehicle on the track. Stop your car in a safe way, within view of a flag station, as soon as possible. Stay on the track, but pull off-line so emergency vehicles can get by.
BLUE & YELLOW There is a passing vehicle. Check your mirrors and allow the driver to pass.
BLACK Pull into the pits for inspection of the vehicle or to discuss drivers behavior of the course
CHECKER Session is over. Proceed with a cool down lap and return to your pit area

It fits fine in the boosted s-chasis class, you just need DOT tires with a treadwear rating of 120 or higher.

I just got back from the streets! It SUCKED! 100+ degree temps and azenis are a bad combination! Not to mention I broke my trans. It's all good though, it's already fixed and I put a spec 11lb aluminum flywheel in too! Gettin some practice bitches (i'll need it to keep up with paul!)! LOL!

What's the deal Pople???!!! You mean to tell me that nearly ALL of you run NoN DOT Race Tires all the time??!! Mus be some kinda BALLER HIGH POWERED TIME ATTACK WE ONLY RACE FOR MONEY FOLKS!!!! All I keep seein is "I don't have DOT rated tires" or "my car wont fit in the class requirements". YES for some of you it's true, there is no SR class, yes there are limits to the type of tires you can run, and yes this event is predominantly for AE86 and KA powered cars. But if tires are the only thing that's keeping you from running- THEN BUY SOME DAMNED TIRES AND ENTER!!!!

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO REALLY CAN'T ENTER IN ONE OF THE SPECIFIED CATEGORIES WITHOUT EXTENSIVE MODIFICATION-EVERYONE CAN RUN ON SATURDAY!!!!!!!! Saturday is an open practice day, so provided your car passes tech you can run ANYTHING!!!!! Really, no kidding. It would be pretty cool to see all the "MONSTERS" that everyone says can't run on Sunday, tearing up the track on Saturday!! :keke: Either way it's track time, and everyone should be happy about that. And this is a chance for a lot of folks to judge their own abilities compared to others in "similarly" set up vehicles. The main goal is FUN people.

My specs are: 153,000 mile N/A KA with an AEM intake. Definitely no monster under the STOCK hood of my S13. I still run stock exhaust! lol! I'm no better than anyone else here. I've got nothing against anyone out there who "can't" or "won't" run. I'm just messin' around, especially with the "man I would, BUT...." or the "if only I had a..." people. No malice or offense, just ruffling feathers, all in good fun.

If all you need is a set of DOT tires then borrow some. Pretty simple. I know not EVERYONE can afford to go out and buy multiple sets of rims/tires but if you track your car at all you should have at least two sets. And no, not everyone can borrow rims/tires but it doesn't hurt to ask. This is still nearly 3 months away. That's a lot of planning time folks. Maybe today it's not a reality for you. However if you are genuinely interested, those of you who aren't that far off, you can probably make it happen.

i beleive rules of convertibles are just the same as any other event at Willow..

you have to have a factory roll bar or an aftermarket roll bar and i beleive the top has to be down. and of course the usual helmet and tech rules..

I'm about to send my payment in for both days but i've got some questions that i'd like to get out of the way before I commit to payment.

1. How do you classify people for the Sunday time trial? I've been on this track before and also have been on the Horse Thief Mile so I do have some experience. I would like to compete on Sunday but i'm not sure if I would be eligible since I have never done an event with Drift Day, so I don't know what skill level I would be considered to be in.

2. Can a Mazdaspeed Miata run in the 1.6-1.8 class on Sunday? It is stock, but has forced induction.

Might need to pull some boost out of it though for that course, maybe bring it down to 14 psi, instead of 18...not on r-comps yet.

I need pwr steering cooler and oil cooler still...sigh we'll see, I am getting out to the track for sure starting dec/jan, it's been almost a year! wow time flys :(

I went on saturday, had a lot of fun. Signed up for 101 as it was my first time on track. Some how I ended up in intermediate/advanced, they said it was ok for me to stay in that group as long as I felt comfortable (I had the slowest car out there, stock sohc w/suspension and brakes). Went on sunday too but just to watch my friend run his corolla. A 370z and gtr were there on saturday. my street tires had a little understeering problem and my brakes where a little mushy. i should of change out my old motul before hand. had to do some early braking, but not too bad. i should be about 2 sec faster next time around

Hey that's a hella good time, what type of tires were you running?

Supposedly my best lap was 1:33.2 with heavy traffic. I had to pass 5 cars to get that time. I'm sure I had a better time than that on my first early runs when I didn't have traffic in front of me but the transponder didn't register it. I was the guy w/ the stock SR & pink seats :) on direzza z1s w/ megan racing street coilovers but they were too soft for that track since I had bad body roll. It sucks too cuz my pedal felt really spongy when it got so hot so I had to custom rig a heatshield for my BMC. Were you the guy w/ the red s14 on those bling wheels?

But besides that the weather was perfect! Normally I would've been at HTM w/ ASB but I actually had more fun trying to guage my lap time... it was awesome, thanks for the event KAT!

^ i was in the black kouki s14 with gt wing and bridgestone re-01r. that red s14 is shift_nismo. but yah i had trouble with traffic too, but about half the time i got some clean runs. to bad my transponder did read half the time. i had it behind glass, next time im mounting it outside for sure. i should be in the 1:27 mark next time out. but yah, ive never seen that many 240s at grip event ever. it nice to see some 240s out there in a evo/s2000/miata world.

BIG THANKS to Naoki for hosting this event, not an easy task to say the least. I had a blast. My second time driving Streets and first with timing equipment. My personal best for the day was 1:35:38. I'm pleased with that.
I was driving the black s13 hatch with no interior running a stock n/a ka24de with an AEM intake, HotShot header and STOCK exhaust :keke: rolling on 245/40/17 Maxxis DRIFT tires :tweak:(way too big) with a 280 treadwear rating.
I'm hoping to make some more improvements to the car and roll on better wheels and tires(the correct size with a better treadwear rating) and hopefully be pushing towards the 1:30 mark.
Congratulations to those who topped their class and to those who never made it,
YOU MISSED OUT!!!!!!
Sorry I just couldn't help myself.
I hope that those who wanted to but couldn't make it will be able to come out for the next one as we plan to do this again.

I'm not a road racer or anything and only drove streets twice before this event on the same car but first on blown JIC coils, then on blown Tein HA coils. This was the first time I actually enjoyed driving streets even if I got stuck on traffic. Naoki was right, I should've been in the same run group as the turbo subies or Taka and Hiro's group I just didn't think the car would handle that well or do I would do well w/o any good experience. It must have been the pink seats or something...

I think i could've broken into the 1:32s had it not been for a broken front-right swaybar mount that I discovered after the sessions were over! No wonder my car got all loose and oversteery after the 3rd session. When that happened, I lost confidence in pushing myself and the car and felt that it was better I quit while ahead instead of pushing and doing something stupid.

Ray- Dude, you should've been put into the Turbo class with Taka, Hiro etc.- that's why they put all the NAs (240s, Corollas, etc.) into one run group and the Turbos in another! It really helps when you have the power to pass the "speed challenged" cars on the straights because there was no passing in the turns but heck, it was fun running with ya out there on streets even though we weren't next to each other most of the time. I think your car would've passed my car easily in the straights if it came to it anyways.

It was fun driving with the other cars out there despite trying to find clean track to post a quick time for the time attack which I was able to do luckily.

Other than that, I had a great time this weekend and thanks again to Driftday staff and especially Naoki for putting on a great event.

And to add to what Tom said about those who weren't there:

YOU MISSED OUT BIG TIME!!!! haha...

So does anyone else have pics or better yet FOOTAGE from this event? I saw a LOT of cameras but have yet to see anything other than what's posted above. I got some in-car footage but I'm still figuring out how to post or edit it(I doubt most of you want to see 20 straight minutes or more of lapping at a time). If you have it, POST IT! PLEASE!!

I heard the winning N/A ka time was a 1:33.2 0r so. That pisses me off because I can run in the low 32's easily with my car, but my broke ass couldn't make it! :mad:

yeah jon (silsx13) would've easily made it into the low 32's possibly even 31's if there wasn't so much traffic and if his swaybar endlink didn't snap...

I should've been able to run 30's on the stock SR i just fell into the wrong run group.

This whole time attack thing is starting to get way too addicting....

TIME-ATTACK................is CRACK for Speed Freaks!!!! (note user name)

But then again I like almost any almost any auto performance discipline that involves speed and pushing it all the way, whether it's sideways or through the twisties for time. Personally for me I think that RALLY would be my single ultimate RUSH because it involves the most extreme of all forms of driving. Someday I hope to do that as well.

Yeah we all had traffic, even me starting up front. But that just makes it a little more interesting even though it hurt lap times. Perhaps we should run a real Time-Attack format next year with a four lap session with only 4-6 cars on the track at a time, the middle two laps being your timed runs. That should decrease traffic interferance and possibly show the most accurate times.

Oh yeah, I had no rear brakes all day.:fawk::duh:
I really can't wait to do this again. Great group of drivers and just a FUN time.
