holy fuck that is insane....its unbelievable that in an election year with the most unpopular president in US history on his way out of office, that the senate would give into passing a bill like this. The US constitution is getting completely steam rolled and its absolutely unbelievable that the fear of terrorist attacks would allow something like this to happen, I also cant believe that obama voted for this

in all seriousness this is pretty damn scary ...I sure as fuck dont wanna live under a govt with unchecked power, its only a matter of time before US citizens start getting disappeared

....We are becoming the USSR

My favorite part is that it exonerates Bush from all the wire tapping etc...

Seriously, dudes got balls to press a bill that saves his own ass from crimes he already committed.

Oh, I am sure once the election is over, someone in congress will get lobbied by the ACLU and some constituents. They will write a new bill, to change what just got passed. This kind shit happens all the time in election years. There are still people that believe in freedom in Congress.

Oh and please no conspiracy theory they are taking away all our freedoms posts. Yes they have infringed on a few, no we are nowhere near a police state, so stop being paranoid.

The senate will pass almost any bill if the word terra is stated by Bush. He has a hillbilly way with words. ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure we'll all still be able to drift after this, so why are we complaining?

Andrew Bohan
07-10-2008, 12:26 AM
we are complaining because...

“In Germany they first came for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.”

Maybe because wiretaps are deemed necessary?

They failed to amend the immunity clause of the bill out, but the part that allowed them to continue wiretaps was still deemed necessary.

If they need wiretaps then they just need to get a damn warrant under the FISA court. But now, they can tap anymore for whatever reason they wish with no justification. Yea, because thats such a good idea...

I wouldn't suggest you do that... technically speaking that is a federal offense and you could end up in an off shore US prison being held for an undetermined time. yeah, bad idea.

i dont know why people think obama is gonna do shit. look at the last elections in congress, lots of democrats won and now have the majority, everyone was like "oh sick this is gonna be good!" and nothing happened. get used to it.

Fear is the most powerful weapon ever. If you can scare the populace of sheeple then you can control them and pretty much do what you want in the name of "National Security".

England is more socialist than we are. You are sadly mistaken if you think you will have it better there.

Nah man, you have to call him and tell him NOT to blow up the whitehouse with a dirty bomb in order to assasinate the president.

Then who would be able to do the job? McCain?Ron Paul?hmmm endless possibilities.

back on topic. I really dont know why some of you are suprised this would happen.Good ol' Uncle Sam has been f'ed up for awhile. Being realistic. even if we do get a promising president(highly unlikely) we wont have the "instant gratification" the we want so much.

I don't think anyone is "surprised" it's just really gay that this has become the norm.

It's hard not to get a little depressed if you sit and look at the path we (the US) are heading down. It's all too easy to become very polarized on these topics but in reality there's a tremendous amount of "grey area" that allows for too much ambiguity. I personally don't think that our current government is anything our founding fathers had in mind when they wrote the constitution; however, too many people are ok with "status quo" and until a majority of people are not then no change will come.

Andrew, thank you for posting that Paster Niemoller quote I think i can safely say I am a better person for having read that.
