...sounds of crickets...
There's been some luck with carb's sohc's none were streetable however. I think they were making 180-200 at the wheels. Some kind of racing team, I forget

I'm pretty sure that the KA24E is more popular in this realm than the DE, mostly because of lack of turbo kits, etc, but also due to the fact that a more agressive cam can be used. I'm pretty sure i've seen ITB's on a KA, and i'm sure i've seen carbs. At any rate, it has been done, and successfuly so, but it's a large amount of cash and won't do as much as a turbo or an engine swap.

any idea what the gain would be from the JWT cam. I'm also thinking of going KA- NA for autox purposes only.

bout 10hp iirc
i've seen pics of ITB's with trumpets (if that's what you meant) on E's, but not on DE's, don't know why.
trying to make the most possible hp out of a NA KA is kinda pointless. just accept that the engine sucks (a vast over generalization i know) and move on.

yeah, I guess it is easier to just swap an SR in there. But for torque reasons I still kinda like the KA.

At this stage of the game I'm sticking with NA on my E (I say this stage cuz I've got this problem with being very indecisive). There are carb options (Courtesy Nissan carries the neccessary stuff) and even ITB's available. Here's the photoalbum of AllmotorKA from Freshalloy. It's just something to drool over ;)

There have been 300hp NA KA's in race trim... and 250hp KA's that were said to be very streetable.

There are also several 510's running around with KA24E's in them .. built by Rebello complete with carbs and supposedly putting down 250+hp. It definately can be done. If you do a search for 510 and KA24E in Google you'll probably find a few examples.

On boost (and probably in many cases off) an SR will easily out-pull a built N/A KA. High-rpm power in an older engine without the benefit of variable timing and a modern combustion chamber good for high compression means it's going to be pretty gutless down low.
I'm with tnord, the KA is not an N/A performance engine. It responds well to turbocharging, and it's got good grunt in stock form, but a KA running at Honda-like hp/L will not have Honda-like manners. It's worked as a race engine N/A, but in those classes (i.e. IMSA GTU) they had to modify production engines... and everyone else was running modified lackluster production engines.
