ok im looking at a clean rx7 that has 144,000. i was almost gonna get it and was told not too that thats really high mileage for a rotary. is this true? ka's, sr's, 4ag's are all strong mtoors that high mileage for them is 200,000 and up. what is considered high mileage on a 87 FC? thank you please help me. and if you have or know of any clean rwd cars for sale around 1000- 2500ish and/or trade plus cash PLEASE let me know. need a jdm car.

NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!
APEX SEALS WILL BE SHOT!!! High mileage on a rotary is 75,000 miles. After 100,000, they usually start to go through oil like a mofo, no compression, engines not worth shit. A rebuild is easy tho, a rotary engine has like 10 moving pieces total.
but Rotarys suck. But an RX7, slap in an LSx engine, call it a day.
A nice cheap RWD car would probably be a mustang, hate to say it. You can get a 4 banger LX foxbody for about 600 around my parts, so probably not too much more in Cali.

Move to japan fan boy. Thats the only way to get a cheap, real JDM car. Skylines over there are going for 2 grand.

Ok so there is a 1500 dollar difference in price there. I wouldnt give anything over 2 for it considering it is in great shape. Any motor can last a long time if maintained correctly rotary, sr,or v10. If not taken care there will be consequences. Fail for wrong thread. If you read above it states Technical Discussion About The Nissan 240SX and Nissan Z Cars. Not Rx7s.

It all depends on how well the previous owners took care of the car. The longevity of every car is directly correlated with the frequency of maintenance (+/- some other factors).
Think of it as motor half life. Rotaries deteriorate faster without proper maintenance, whereas KA's/SR's/What-have-you's run longer without a tune-up.
I say ask for maintenance receipts and whatnot, see how well the car was kept, ask for leaks and stuff, standard sh*t. Just be more stringent with it compared to a 240.
As for other cars, use the WTB section.

Nto a rotary. They're flawed from the design table. You'll want to at least replace the apex seals if you get it. TO make a rotary last like a regular engine, you'd need to replace the oil every 1500 miles, and never get on it. Trust me. I've dealt with many rotarys at my workplace. They've all had 100,000 miles, they've all complained about going through oil.

Ok the rotary has 3 moving parts, and yes the apex seals are very easy to do, it took me about an hour and a half to two hours to do all 6

3, 10, same difference lol. But im just saying, dont expect it to perform very well with 145,000 miles. Replace the apex seals.

This thread is going downhill quickly. That being said I would recommend going to an rx7 forum if you want true rotary advice. www.rx7ownersclub.com (http://www.rx7ownersclub.com) www.teamfc3s.com

they'll say the same thing lol. Replace the apex seals...
I think you need to drop in an LS1. Actually, the 6.0l truck engine is cheaper, only 90lbs heavier, and is bigger, therefore better (lol). All you'd need is the LSx intake manifold and accessories.

It's not recommended to rebuild a rotary motor that has around 150K or more miles since the aluminum rotor housings are usually worn down that it's not worth rebuilding anymore. Check out Pineapple Racing, they have informative videos about rebuilding them, they also sell rotary parts. You have to be baller to actually do a complete rebuild since parts for these fuckers are skyhigh.
Rotary FTW!

is there a such thing as a bulletproof rotary? i know nothing of rx7's or anything of that genre. i was just wondering if some baller made one out of gold and shit. okay that sounds retarded but you get the point.

IDK... A bulletproof rotary is like an honest politician...
I'm not 100% sure, but I am 99% sure they don't exist.

Why would you want a car that weighs 1,000lbs more then a 240 and half the hp?

its cheap. And it doesnt weigh twice as much as an s13. An LX weighs just shy of 3,000 lbs. WHich is about 250lbs more than a hatchback.
He said he wanted a cheap RWD car. That's in all senses of the word a cheap, rwd car.

Rotaries CAN be reliable. They just need extremely good mainatenance to be such. That however is as common as an unmolested 240.
It's likely on its way out. Every RX-7 I know of is either rebuilt recently or needs it soon.

If it has ever overheated in its life for even just a minute, call the engine toast!
Thats from my experience with my previous rx7's.
Think of your ka as that cool chick that'll always be there for you for anything when you need it, and if shit ever goes sour, you can always do something to fix it. Or get another one like her.
Think of a rotary as that sexy bipolar daddy's girl that doesn't get enough attention, takes all your $, and is ready to Columbine as soon as shit gets heated.

From what I have read and experienced older rx7s that are not taken care of properly they are just a heap full of problems. The rx7 chassis is great but the older engine isn't all that great plus the get pretty bad mpg.
But even still I am still a fan on the rx7.

rotaries aren't as bad as they sound. The maintenance is different and they do deteriorate faster if not maintained properly. However the bulk of the problems with the rotaries is the Apex seals and all the lines they have. Other than that they're pretty damn reliable. For the weight to hp ratio nothing can beat a rotary engine.

if you maintain it well it'll be fine. my 2nd fc had about 190k on it and still ran strong, the previously owner babied it. i have a s13 coupe w/ silvia front end for sale if your interested. shoot me a pm

buy a different fc ... but then again people COULD be tryin to sell their fcs because of the apex seals issue.
200k is OLD, and you plan to put more miles on the chassis..........

n/a rotaries are reliable. its when you introduce boost is when the reliability goes away.
its not abnormal to add oil your gas either.
