What are known running and reliable SR20 swaps selling for these days? I find myself jonesing for a VQ and wonder what I could get for my current setup:

This is just the engine and related stuff, not a full car...

Engine:
S13 redtop SR20DET engine and transmission, harness work by Wiring Specialties (S13 to S13)
Stock redtop 62 ECU
Ignitor (of course)
SOHC MAF
All accessories: power steering pump/alternator/starter (rebuilt), A/C compressor included but not installed
Custom intake pipe/filter
Forge 007 blow off valve
Greddy front mount intercooler/piping
Megan Racing O2 housing (Greddy style)
TopSpeed 3” stainless downpipe
X2 5-quart oil pan (Greddy knockoff, works great, never leaks)
Blacktop oil strainer
Greddy oil filter relocation kit w/Aeroquip fittings
Nismo thermostat
Nismo engine and transmission mounts

Drivetrain:
Spec stage 1 clutch
B&M shifter
Driveshaft Shop 1-piece steel driveshaft (S13 w/o ABS)

Big box o' spares:
Water pump
Ignitor chip
4 spare coilpacks with harness
Spare coilpack cover (2)
Spare CAS cover
Starter (SR, not KA)
Greddy Type S BOV, with JDM fitting for stock SR hotpipe
Breather tank with all fittings (never installed)
SARD lower rad hose fitting for breather tank (never installed)

The radiator, fans, differential, etc I can still use so I'd keep them. The engine has unknown mileage (was sold to me as having 35k on the clock) but is super-clean under the VC, runs like a champ and pulls hard. It's never been boosted over 7psi while I've had it, the clutch has never been launched hard or drifted, the transmission shifts smoothly and makes no weird noises. Nothing leaks either, from the engine or the tranny. This whole setup has been through two cars with me (first car was sold in favor of a clean chassis, it was NOT driven hard and wrecked).

For the whole shebang, I was thinking in the neighborhood of $3500-$4000 but I don't know what to base it on. Ebay prices for engine sets are still anywhere from $1500 to $2500 for red/blacktops, some are just the engine/tranny some include harness/ecu.

Any thoughts appreciated. This engine is in primo shape.

a good running engine from a reputable dealer will run you back AT LEAST 3 grand. And you'll still want to overhaul the engine, which is another 500 for new seals, gaskets, oil and water pump, etc.

I am a personal fan of part-outs especially with after market.

There's no way you will see $3.5k for your setup. There are people selling engine sets (longblock, clutch, tranny, harness, ignitor, etc) for under $2k, and you've only got about $500 more stuff than that.

Your best bet is to ask what you would take for what you listed (meaning if you need to get $3.5k, ask $3.5k for everything) and keep in the back of your mind that you might need to part everything out to get your money out of it.

The other option is to put up the cash for another chassis, put your stuff in it, and sell the chassis. That's the only way to make that kind of cash, imo.

I'm not looking to buy, I'm looking at the possibility of selling my entire SR setup to partially finance a VQ swap.

I don't think this engine needs an overhaul unless the buyer would want to go for big power.

Really?!? A quality FMIC kit, BOV, downpipe, turbine outlet, big oil pan, and all that other stuff is only worth $500?

Eh, I ran over the Greddy IC kit part, because you didn't list which one. Usually that means "Greddy-style" like your knockoff oil pan. That shit doesn't add value when someone's lookin at a motor swap - people would rather have a 'freshly imported' one that was bone stock.

My recommendation stands - ask what you think you'd take for it (to finance your VQ swap and all), but keep in mind that you'll probably end up parting it out.

Some people would rather buy an imported motor "FOB" that has been sitting in some J dudes junkyard, just because it's "FOB".

Part it out dude...I know someone that will buy that IC from you:naughty: Which type is it?

The IC is the old VSPL model, cost me about $700 new. Which apparently doesn't mean much ;)

The box of spares also ought to be worth a few bucks IMO. I really think $3500 is reasonable for everything.

If I move on this, it won't be until winter, or next year. Summer is prime driving weather and I don't want the car to be down for a long period right now... Hopefully if I decide to go forward with the project, I'll be able to find someone local to take most or all this stuff off my hands.

Thanks for the opinions.

like hondatech guys say:

its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

aka, put it up for sale and find out what its worth. asking a bunch of people on the forum wont tell you anything. just because most people do something (like want FOB motors) doesnt mean that you wont find someone that will pay what your asking, and it also doesnt mean that you wont only find low ballers and have to settle.

right now i offer you $1000 for it, take it or leave it :)

I personally think your better of selling the whole car than just trying to unload your modified swap, but that just my opinion.
