Alright everyone out there. Here is what I'm looking for, I have exactly 0 dollars to go on and I'm looking to start a project car. Like everyone, we all dream to be able to fix up something like an RX-7 or a Twin Turbo 300zx but lets face facts, things like that just don't happen to 17 year old boys , As some of you know, I've been looking for a car to fix up and what not. Now with about a month of thought behind me I've decided that useing a daily driver as a project car just isn't a wise move no matter how I look at it. So here is what I'm looking at car wise to fix up...

Project Cars
Toyota 1995 MR2 Turbo
Nissan 1995 - 98 240SX , even if it is a bit pricey.

What I'm asking of you guys, is what did you all do when you started looking for your project cars? And once you got them. What did you do to help make them a reality? I'm looking at quite a bit of time working to save up for all of the stuff I want to get, but thats okay.

I've already taken care of all of my sound system stuff from back when I had a 2000 Civic EX. Which is my Sony X-plode Head Unit, Focal Mids and Tweeds , Rockford Fosgate Amp and two 10 inch Image Dynamic subs. That is at least one thing I wont have to worry about, right?

Here are some qustion's I've got...
1.) How long did it take for you to obtain money for your car?
2.) How did you go upon picking your car?
3.) What we're some of the first steps you took to mod it out?
4.) How long did it take for you to do it?
5.) Was it worth it?

A little help would be nice

If you have zero dollars how can you buy a car? Do you have a job? Are your parents going to help out? Car projects are very dependent on money. The whole daily driver/project car thing is a good idea, so you could take your time. I'd get the MR2, but their harder to find than the 240. At least the 95s, ive seen alot of 91s. Anyway just save money, and good luck.

If you've got $0 and you're not planning on driving the project car daily, set your sights lower. Think S13, FC RX7, older MR2 Turbo.

I bought my car knowing in advance that I needed something that not only ran but ran well already. I knew I wanted an S13 and I bought the first one that felt mechanically and structurally sound.

Money... I bought the GTI with cash, and used the money from selling my previous daily car ($1750) plus my previous project car ($250) plus a little extra cash ($300) to buy the 240SX.

Modification - I haven't. This goes back to buying something already mechanically sound. I want to drive the hell out of the car, find its limits, THEN tear into it to raise those limits. I've owned my S13 for about 10 months now. I also believe that a project is never done... I don't think I could ever look at my car and say "that's it, there's nothing else to do."

a 95 mr2 turbo is pretty much close to impossible to find. expect to pay upwards of 10,000 for a car in good condition. i suggest getting a 91 na model and swap in a gen 3 motor in. exterior/interior-wise, you can turn a 91 into a 94+ model anyways.
