My KAE started clicking the other day.
It has a loose timing chain, but the sound is no longer like marbles, it clicks.
What is it? Why would the sound change?

Well, the timing chain noise stopped, and has been replaced by this clicking so... I'd imagine it would have something to do with the chain?
Anyone ever experience this?

check injectors. pull spark plugs, see if its running on all 4 cylinders. maybe timing and tps.

happened to my friends kae when he did the motor swap.

doesnt do it now, it just runs rich.

What I don't get is why the marble sound from the timing chain would stop.

I mean, what are the chances of a timing chain stopping it's rattle at the same time that the injectors go screwy?

My bet is a lifter that needs bled. ^ and yes, KAE has lifters.

does the clicking increase/decrease with the rpms?

i used to have problems with my lifters all the time.. usually came on when my oil was low (my car had a leak) or the oil wasnt getting to the lifters somehow. i filled it up with oil to proper levels and the clicking went away after a short drive.

my lifters only acted up after drifting/hard driving though....

probly lifters. Run some ATF in the oil and it should clean it out

No don't think the noise increases with the RPM, I'll check tomorrow, but I believe it is continually the same.

Lifters still don't explain why the timing chain noise would stop.:mepoke:

both of the noises my kae took on where rpm related. I had a clutch fan go out so my car sounded like an airplane then it sounded like a john deere cuz it burns oils and I got low causing my lifters to hesitate and tap. both of those are definately rpm related though. its off to have something timing related that wouldn't be. have you tried hanging under your hood to locate by sound? like the general area its coming from?

bleed the lifters

can you even do this on a ka24e? how? i tried taking some off and submerging them in oil, poking them with a needle... and i got no air bubbles lol

anyway. i have noisy lifter problems as well right now. im thinking the o-ring for my oil pickup may be bad and is sucking air in with the oil, causing air in the lifters, or just not enough oil....? does this sound possible to anyone? im going to pull the oil pan off soon (again) and see whats going on. because honestly (sorry to say) i do remember the oil pickup o-ring being a little out of shape and i used it anyway :loco: just goes to show DO IT RIGHT THE 1ST tIME, OR YOU GOTTA DO IT ALL AGAIN
