Hello guys I was wondering if any of you have used www.blasstperformance.com to get your turbo rebuilt. If not what other companies have you guys gone through to get your turbo rebuilt? Im just curious because I am getting ready to send out my turbo. Thanks

Blaast rebuilt my journal bearing T28 and did a great job. Shipping takes longer since they're in Canada, though.

Blaast redid my T25, He does a GREAT job. and is very detail oriented. Great Prices, but again...shipping to him took a while...so plan ahead if you can. He even took a broken stud in my turbine housing free of charge, and came back spotless. I'd def go to him again for a turbo rebuild.

The total price for my rebuild was $300, which included some work on the center shaft (extra charge) and a 360* thrust bearing. Would have cost ~$500+ at pretty much any other shop.
He's a French-Canadian guy who works out of his garage, but he sure as hell knows what he's doing :p

Holy Crap $300 for a rebuild on a T25??!!! You could find a used T28 for a litttle bit more.
But damn I buy T25 rebuild kits off of EBay for $60!!
Ive rebuilt over 7 T25's no problems on them after 2years, They are DD and see 12-14 psi, No shaft play.
Balanceing the shaft is really not that big a deal, although ppl swear you need to do it.

Gpop shop does great work as well. I haven't used them but plenty of people on this site have, with pretty much all good things to say about them.

It was a T28 from a GTiR. I could have spent $60 or $100 on the rebuild kit and tried to do it myself. Then I would have found out that my shaft was all fucked up, and would have to get it machined, which costs more money. I'd need to find a 360* thrust bearing (which I wanted to upgrade to), which costs more money. Then I'd need to get the shaft balanced, which costs more money, or I could just mark where the shaft lines up and pray that it's close enough.
Or I could spend a little bit more than all that to have a professional do it so that I don't have a chance to fuck things up myself??

I think he charges ~$180 for a basic rebuild, and the cost goes up from there. So that's like ~$100 in labor, pretty dirt cheap.

I've dealt with gpopshop.com, blaastperformance.com, and i've rebuilt turbo's myself. gpop shop is decent, great customer service - very informative and well mannered. The french Canadian guy from blaast REALLY knows exactly what he's doing, and has tons of experience.
Heres some pics of the turbo that blaastperformance.com did. (I'm switching out to a different turbo setup, so the turbo is just sitting on a shelf right now.)

Keep in mind, i didn't clean this thing one bit since I've gotten it back. Everything was hospital clean right out of the box. All new studs were put in and I could tell everything was balanced because the grinding marks on the compressor wheel were not there when i shipped it out. I couldn't ask for a better rebuild.
Total cost = 230, shipped both ways.

yeah... it takes about an hour to an hour and a half (without balancing...im not sure how long balancing takes).....thats pretty reasonable imo.
I've done it, i dont want to do it again... its one of those things i dont mind paying someone else to do (and now that i think about it... its the only thing ive ever payed someone else to do...i even mount and balance my own tires. lol)

anyone heard of gpop?
I used GPop on my T3/T4.
Great shop, did a fantastic job on my turbo, which was fucked beyond all belief.
Great customer service too, I was one of those annoying ass customers that asks 10000 questions on the phone while they probably had more important things to do. But they answered everything and never seemed short with me.

If you do not really want to ship it off. Contact your local Diesel Repair shop. They ussually have connections to turbo rebuilders and can take care of it all for you.

^Yep, that's a good option as well. I would have gone that route, except there's only one shop in my area, and they charge a $500 basic rebuild cost before any additional machining :eek3:

I have another question for you guys. There is a stud that is broken in my housing and I have had no luck getting it out. So could I just replace the housing without havig to get my turbo balanced?
SHIFT_*grind*

You won't need to balance the turbo if you just replace the exhaust housing. But...have you tried drilling the stud out? You can give it a shot yourself, or just take it to a machine shop. They've got magic shit that can get things like that out and re-thread the hole for you :)

I tried drilling it out already but broke my easy out inside it. I guess I will take it to a machine shop and see what they can do for me. If they cant get it out then I will just let blaast rebuild it for me and put a new housing on it. Thanks everyone for the informative replies!!!

I broke off 1 or 2 drill bits in mine, machine shop was still able to get it out. It does depend on how bad it is, but you'd be surprised at what they can un-fuck up. Cost $60 :( but that's cheaper than a rebuild/housing swap, at least.

Do the DMS T25 rebuild kits work for the SR T25?
