Its not some genius idea or anything, and I know a lot of people won't spend 30-40 bucks a linear foot for the stuff... but, has anyone ever done this too? ...Or am I the only idiot?

EDIT: for any of you guys who are planning on doing it, a linear foot is more than enough..you'll use about 3/5th of a sheet...enough to have some left over for the firewall behind the turbo/exhaust manifold. As far as applying it, start with the center bend, work your way out. I tried starting it from one side and working my way over, but I kept getting wrinkles and air pockets.

there are more ppl who do it. I actually plan on it as well.

I have seen a few but not too many I plan on it as well.

yeah...i mean... its a good idea, I've just never seen anyone else do it to the MR shield before..I always see it on brake boosters and stuff (which still doesn't make sense to me to have it on the booster..whatever)

Glad to see someone out there is thinking :)

I'll be doing it to an MR shield, my firewall, and portion of the trans. tunnel. I like the look plus it'll go perfectly with my black and gold theme :D

yeah i wanna get 2 more sheets and do underneath my floor by the downpipe... that floor gets brutal on long trips, lol.

Yeah I seen it done before as well, thinking about doing it to a heat shield or cover the firewall in it... maybe even an induction box with this protecting it.

lots of ways it can be used but if only it came in other colors like black would make that material much more of an interest

top mount gotta have a shield
i melted a bmc at HTM in the summer

i dont gold wrap it, kinda overkill but its not bad
id rather get a blanky for the turbo.

MR is the cheapest way to go

Yeah, i mean i figured it couldnt hurt...and i already got a great deal on the shield itself... i around the same price for the shield+gold foil than if i just got the shield alone at a normal price.

Will the MR shield also work with a top mount setup? I know most of it comes down to manifold design...but for the most part, is it doable? (not sure if im going top mount eventually)

Just use a heat sheild and ceramic coat the header/turbo.

Blam diggity.

yeah im all about ceramic coating the turbine housing, but this summer im just rocking a T25, so im in no rush to blow cash on that. lol

Its a little pricey, but it may be well worth it. I've seen that on more show cars than race cars tho...

Btw, where do you find that stuff?

Enjuku has it, I think MA motorsports sells it cheaper though (cant remember)

it says its good for 695ยบ for up to 8 hours...and was designed by NASA (if its true...neat :))

I know a few race cars that use it, all enjuku's cars used to run it (of course..)
The full race S14 (Forest) uses it, and i've seen it on some 911 turbo's. I mean.. in the grand scheme of things..its not that much money. Its not like any other material, and SHOULD do a pretty decent job at keeping the fluid from boiling over due to heat soak.

I wouldn't know if show cars use it or not.... I don't usually look at them, lol :gives:

That's what I did! Bought 2 ft @ Baker Precision, and did the firewall from 'ridge' to downpipe, from brake booster as far as I had material for.

Here you can see how far down I was able to go.

Eventually I'll buy another foot and finish the 'floor' section, where the downpipe sits literally 1/4" from the floor (and I don't have carpet). That's the price you pay to have your whole exhaust tucked above the frame rail :)

Because the same dollar amount in silver reflective is enough to cover your car?

and its like 60% efficent compared to 75%, so who cares?

^^^ McRussell can you link the silver stuff? I've seen stuff for sound absorption, and silver adhesive tape (like "200mph tape"), but nothing thats anywhere near as good for heat reflection. If it's significantly cheaper, I'd get it for the rest of my undercarriage...
