Im stuck on what I should do and is't the same as most other people. Should I keep my KA24de on my 95 or should I get an Sr29det. I was looking at a Nsport turbo kit and a XS kit. Does anybody have any sugestions at what I should do. My car is an auto but the way I look at it I'll have to change it over to a mannual if I get the SR so what should I do? The Nsport turbo kit says it has everything to do the install. Has anyone installed one and how do you like it?

well i guess your topic title is irrelevant, cuz either way you are going turbo.
May I ask why you want to stay auto?
If you just have to I would say either get a KA turbo kit or make one yourself, unless your current engine is shitty or high mileage.
I wouldn't bother with the SR, cuz your are limiting yourself with trying to keep it auto.
If you don't care about auto, then exactly what are you trying to do with your car, autox, drag, daily driver, show?.

ok sorry about the 29, the 9 is next to the 0. But anyways I just put in a new KA this year into the car. I really don't want to keep the car as an auto its just I don't know exactly how to do a tran. swap or who would do it,and how much would it cost? Im living in Korea for the next 8 months, I was hoping to have the car done by the time I got back. My car is in Maryland. I just want to know should I turbo the KA or throw in an SR. If you know some good info on the nsport or the xs turbo kits, also on how to the the tran. swap.

I'm wondering how long, how may post, will this take to get locked. The KA-T vs. SR debate has been done many many times. Lets look at it this way, both engine have their pros and their cons. For roughly the same about of money you can have the KA-T turbocharged and at the same HP rating as the engine swap. Or you could do the turbocharging yourself and nearly double the HP rating of the SR, but that is up to your mechanical know how. Lay it down like this my friend, it is a hard decision to make and I doubt anyone on this board can seriously lead you in the right direction. The only reason I have chosen to turbocharge my '98, when I get it in June, is legality and blah blah blah. Thats all, other than that I would be thrilled.
I will NOT list any pros or cons of either engine for fear of flaming and an all out KA-T vs SR war. Let me just say, SEARCH! Search around the board while you have time, who knows what the vB switch may lose. Search the board, search 240sx.com, search frikin google.com if you have to. Get the info you need to make the decision before you ask everyone here to do it for you.

well, first off, the decision can be made more easily if you factor in your engine's current condition. if it's running fine, and in good repair, and has no problems... then the decision is a little harder. but if the engine's got some problems, some leaks, an irregular idle/knocking... you're looking at spending a nice stack of cash to get it in good enough repair to BE turbocharged, and would be better off financially to get an SR. but if it's a good engine...
you can get roughly the same figures turboing your KA as you can from an SR swap, if the SR is left stock. however, it will cost you far more to reach higher hp levels out of your KA than the SR, as the SR comes with well built internals already. if you're looking for somewhere around stock SR hp levels...:
pros
KA-t: legal
SR: don't have to source a lot of parts from different places, just buy a clip.
cons
KA-t: may cost heavily to get engine ready for turboing
SR: illegal in the US. you more than likely will get away with it, but i'm sure that a savvy cop who feels like being an ass could give you some trouble.

all i got to say is turbo the ka with f-max. ive seen and know of an 11.8 sec car with the ka and f-max setup. ask boosteds-14 he is a dealer for f-max.

personally, i dont think listing a 1/4 time of a KA-T uve seen would help anybody. there are faster SRs in japan than that 11.8 KA-T uve seen. so yea that proves nothing. but giving out info of who supplies turbo kits is a plus.
the way i look at it is..
your engine mileage > 95XXX = SR
your engine mileage < 95XXX = KA-T
of course there are people out there with turbo KAs at about 120XXX+ milage, thats good for them, some make it some dont. with a SR your internals are already strong, you can say the engine was somewat overbuilt [read that somewhere forgot where] so it can handle it, and plus the engine came out the factory turbo'd meaning it will have better coolant, rather than a KA. with a KA-T if you have high milage you might have to rebuild the whole engine which will cost you more.
i dont know y people say KA-Ts are legal, where i live they arent all turbo kits are off road use ONLY except the GReddy since its CARB legal and uses a turbo off of the elicpse. i live in CA just for the record.
if you want high torque and high hp with low revs get a KA-T. since KA-Ts do have more hp than a SR stock i believe. if u want a high hp engine later and high revs get a SR. since SRs have 500rpms over the KA.
personally, im going with a S14 SR, since they are more rare than S13 SRs on the street. s13 SRs more easy to get, cheaper, easier to upgrade turbo, since there are so many turbo upgrade kits for it out there already like ENJUKUs.
all in all, it depends on wat YOU want, i dont think nobody here can convice u to change ur mind. i personally, am still debating, actually even tho i stated about the SR above, ive been thinking about doing a JUNKYARD turbo kit so yea. i just think you can do it cheaper if u piece it together, since i do know somebody who got a BOV for 3 bucks, and intercooler for 30 bucks. so yea, thats y as of right now im debating SR or JUNKYARD KA-T.

I think we have all asked this qustion at least 300 times on the board.
Go with what you _WANT_ , either way you will be dicked on emissions. Oh well
As long as your pee on the ricers, it'll be all good.
