I have an s14 sr, and run 10w30 for the street. However i think i should use something heavier to run it on the track. Time trials should be about 15-20 minutes of constant high revving per session. Is 20w50 good? Is it fine to drive to the track and back home with that in the engine also?

I run 20W50 in my car for daily driving.
It helps quiet things down, and since it's hot as fuck where I am, it's not going to hurt anything.
As far as driving it back and forth tot he track and home, you'll be fine.

I also used 20w50 for daily..it seemed sluggish in cold mornings but when it gets hot it ran like a champ.

20w 50 is for high milige or old motors ie. sr20det. been using 20w50 for about 3 years in my sr i daily it 50 miles a day and pound the shit out of it every day....plus its thicker so if you have any tiny oil leaks its less likely to leak.

Cool, it sounds pretty safe and definitely a good idea for the track. Out of curiousity, what is the downside of running a heavier oil for daily driving (when not driving very hard), assuming the temperature is not excessively low? Is it just a slight power loss or something else?
