I want to do a cat back exhaust system just like everyone else. I have a guy who will mandrel bend a pipe from the cat to a new muffler for 60 bucks. Here is the question, which muffler should i stick onto the end of that pipe?

Thanx.

go with magnaflow, you won't be disappointed. they have a big selection, and for street and race application. The street aplication is not loud. If you looking for something loud and the most performance get the race application. I love mine.

You could get an APC uni muff. Apex also makes an N1 universal muffler, you should check that out as well.

whatever you do, GET A RESONATOR and have it welded somewhere in the "midpipe". otherwise, no matter what muffler you get, it WILL sound like ass.

Definitely agreed on the resonator. A glasspack muffler is actually a pretty good resonator.

Mandrel bent for $60? Are you sure it's not crush bent?

I plan on going this route also... I can't justify $400 or even $600 for a mild steel exhaust when there are plenty of shops that can whip something up in stainless tubing on the cheap, and I can pick what kind of muffler I want.

Also for magnaflow mufflers... never used one on a 240SX, but they sound awesome on VWs, even the nasty-ass 2.0 8v...

I have a dynomax race muffler (race muffler?? don't ask) on my car, with 3" mandrel bent exhaust it was quite loud. Too loud wouldn't be understating it. With the turbo it's doable. You could run the bullet muffler under the seats before the axle and then another muffler later at the bumper, that would help. Check out summitracing.com

Heh, someone I know has a 3" exhaust with two of those dynomax race bullets in line, on an N/A four (mind you, making 190+ hp at the wheels). You can hear his car from half a mile away... and he's never gotten a noise ticket

The race bullet is a good resonator, though, and they're cheap - $30-$35!

um sorry but magnaflow mufflers are crap no offense , i had one and it sounded horrible and gave me no power at all and made me lose torque , get a decent muffler like a universal apex n1 or a respectable company unlike magnaflow ... i know from experience i sell import parts and i get alot of responses about what people think about their exhausts ... hope that helps , just my 2 cents =) ...

60 bucks for mandrel bends?
i paid 120.00..
i think you might be getting crush bends..
anyways. if you want to go w/ a universal muffler get one that you like, you can get a muffler w/ silencers so you dont need the resonator [ i think ].

theres APexi N1 or Fireball or dual N1 like mine.

Where did you all go to get your custom pipes? I don't really want to go to Minieke<SP?> or Midas cause I've heard they suck. I've been thinking about this lately since my tip rusted off my muffler.

DO NOT go to Car-X. i mean, they got it on there, but they only do crush bends and mine look horrible.... but i've got a Magnaflow muffler, and it sounds great. not too loud (on highways it's REALLY annoying, though), sounds great when you get on it. 2.5" pipes, dual DTM syle 3.5" tips.

A resonator is still key to take the high-pitched metallic "fart" sound out of the exhaust. The plug-in silencers for cannon-style mufflers reduce sound volume but don't change the the tone... and they're a nasty restriction on flow.

Silencers help a lot. Makes a super loud muffler very quiet... I run a silencer most of the time... and the only bad part about it is that it rattles until the car is warm -- silencer expands when it gets hotter. And then I just take it off whenever I feel like being a loud bastard

damn its suppose to rattle? i didn't use my silencers cuz they rattled and i thought they didnt fit right cuz its a cheap muffler.. oh well. i wouldn;t have cept it on anyways. i bought it to be LOUD =) and the extra 2-3 hp is cool too i guess..
