View Full Version : fuel cuts at 5k in alll gears

i recently took my engine out to clean my bay and engine. the motor is back in and the speedometer does not work and i have a fuel cut in all gears at 5krpm..

any help will be greatly appreciated.

not sure if its related but my brake light is also on and my fluid is good

my brother has rthe same problem but in his dohc, ive searched and many people say 5th gear sensor i duno check it out but your best bet is to search for more details.. good luck

wherer is the 5th gear sensor??? my ebrake sensor is also on and i have plenty of fluid

weird ecu problem possibly never heard of this befor kinda just throing it out there though i dont know if u have a buddy that might have an ecu they can lend you its worth a shot just because, its an easy fix

Its your 5th gear sensor, I ve had it happen before, just disconnect it and you'll be ok. Its the last sensor on the tranny, closest to the diff. Its pretty easy to do. Mine was shorting out and the first time it happenned at the track i was very scared lol

I'm having the same problem and i switched ecu's with no change.
If you find out what it is please let me know

awesome thanks so where is the speed o sensor????that stopped working as well and does my brake light have anything to do with it???

speed sensor is near the back of the trans on the passenger side

you have messed up somewhere on the wiring, not connected properly.
maybe you painted the engine bay and now your not getting a ground.
I remember I when i had my ground wire loose at the back of the trunk where the latch is, my turn signal lights went on when stepping on the brake, and the dash brake light stayed on, and the car was dying out and other lights turned on, very weird behavior.
check the wiring on the alternator, and check grounding between engine and chassis

Check the 5th gear sensor, I had that problem for months and didnt know wtf was going on. Turned out the sensor was bad, so I unplugged it.

The car thinks its always in 5th gear, hence the fuel cut at 5k. 5th gear @ 118mph = 5k rpms.
