View Full Version : z32 brakes WON'T BLEED

Installed front calipers, rotors, and SS lines on the front.
Used clear tubing on bleeder to see any air, bled till no air comes out.
Pumping the brakes quick, the pedal gets stiff.
But once you let off the pedal for a second and press down again, pedal goes all the way to the floor and no pressure until you pump them quick.

While looking at the fluid leven in the master cylinder:
Pumping quick till brakes get stiff - fluid level goes down
Then let off the brakes - fluid rushes back up into the master cylinder

I thought the master may be bad, replaced that... no change.
thought the lines may be letting air in somehow, replaced them, no change...
Tried bleeding rears and fronts also in the right order... nothing.

No brake fluid leaking from caliper, bleeder screw, or lines.
Brakes hold pressure after you pump them quickly, and holds the pressure
until you let off.

I have no idea whats going on but its really pissing me off...
Any idea what could be causing this??

Here are the Specs
z32 fronts
stock rears
5spd s13 master cylinder
auto s13 brake booster

You sure you have the brakes on the correct sides? Maybe you got the L/R mixed up? it happens

Did you check to make sure you put the calipers where they go? Meaning the left and right side correct.

had a similar issue with my clutch system. ended up buying a vacuum pump bleeding kit...worked awesome...maybe you just had a shitload of air the system because of the new master cylinder(did you bench bleed??)

bleeder should be in the upper half of the caliper. thats how you can tell the calipers are installed on the correct sides.

There was a thread on here where a member installed z32 brakes upside down so there was always air trapped at the top of the caliper but the bleeder was on the bottom hope that helps.

Ill tell you a little trick. There is a dampening box under the passenger side. take it out and connect the lines. BAM will bleed the first time. dampening boxes are for pussies... lol

.....That is for the clutch. He is having problems with his brakes.

If there is a brake dampener somewhere, I have not seen it or had one on my cars.

Did you replace the Master Cylinder also? If so was it bench bled?
Do you have ABS? You need to bleed the air from the Booster to the ABS system before doing the calipers.
Next, make sure your calipers are on correctly(R/L)
Then, you need to make sure you are properly bleeding them and not letting air in during the bleeding process(helps to have 2 people)

So no leaks anywhere and the fluid will go back down? Can you explain the bleeding process you are using? Is your friend opening and closing the bleeders or are you doing it?

What sunny s14 said is true, and this happened to me when i put them on reversed. Dont get too worried....it should be an easy fix. Update this thread please.

haha I posted at 12 and already got 13 responses?

- Ok, I installed left and right correct.
- master cylinder worked fine with stock brakes
- friend is opening and closing the bleeder
- No ABS
- But, did NOT bench bleed

I have a friend coming over today, going to try to reverse force bleed them...
not sure what the problem is.

thanks hope this is done today!

Oh, and I have an extra pair of brand new Z32 conversion lines if anyone wants them. Will post them in the for sale section when I get around to it.

Make sure you bench bleed then.

We messed around for months on my z32's until we found out the bleeders were bad.

Go buy speed bleeders, they are worth every penny.

I had similar problems after replacing MC and Booster... the booster has an adjustable plunger that needs the be set.

You will need Needle Nose Pliers to hold it from rotating while you use the 8mm or 6mm socket (can remember). You should only make 1.4 turns and re-install the MC, test the feel... then re-adjust again untill you like the feel.

this may not be the issue... but now you know.

messed around with the brakes last night. Re-tightened everything down and reverse force bled the whole system. Pedal is nice and tight, everything is good now!
There had to be an air pocket in the system somewhere. Better to just push the air up instead of trying to pull it down out of the system...
now its time to find my annoying power drain!!!

Thanks
