Im pretty sure I know the answer to my question but I still need to ask.

Under any circumstances will an open diff(stock s13 to be exact) leave two sets of tire marks(side by side) on the ground ? Dirt, grass, sand, mud, ect...

Ive been trying to find out if my stock diff is open or not. Its a 93 coupe se. I cant just do it the old fashioned way and do a "burn out" or "doughnuts" because my car is an auto. Im not into brake stands, and when its been wet out I have tried to do some circles but it stalls pretty easy when I do them. I dont want to crack it open and look till I buy my 1.5(im lazy).

It feels like the z32 diff I had in my sil80 but I dont really play with my car right now. As soon as my 5speed goes in(a few days) I can find out really quickly.

My car will leave two sets of marks on pavement but the outter is more faint than the inner(If im going around a cornner), or on dirt, grass, ect...

Once again, I think it has a diff but it feels weak if I do. I have never had a stock lsd from a s13 so I dont know how they feel.

Thank you.

jack the rear of the car up! spin one wheel in neutral. If the other wheels spins the opposite way you don't have a lsd!

If the two rear tires are experiencing almost the same amount of grip, the two tires will spin.

theres like a 99% chance you have an open diff. stocks vlsd's suck balls anyways.

Most likely it's an open. Automatic 240's almost always came with open diffs, regardless of whether or not it was an SE model.

Also, put the vehicle in neutral, push the wheels. Doesn't matter if the car is auto, you can still put it into neutral and achieve the same results.

hmmm odd. the diff that came out of my s13 i could dump the clutch ect in a straight line, spin 2 tires. jack up the car, spin 1 tire, the other would SLOWLY trail forward. when i swapped for a welded diff pulled the cover to find it was an open diff. i was like wtf!

I can dump the clutch and spin two wheels aswell. But only one tire spins while doing donuts/burnouts. I have a open diff. My friend has an open diff and when he dumps the clutch it spins two for a second or so then grips.
