I'm thinking about buyin this S13 i saw here...
AUTO
BAD Paint
Hail Damage
New Brake MC
95000 Miles
No Rust
New Distributor and Plug Wires
Anything else I need to check for tell me. It's an 89' Fastback if you're wondering. The fact that it has all this new stuff makes me wonder...and the condition of the exterior...I really probably won't get it seeing the condition that it's in(and it's AUTO). But if I get the VIN would someone run it on CARFAX for me? Just hit me up with a e-mail if you would do it for me. Thanks.

seriously, it sounds like a terrable car, and a 89... i'd pay like 5-8 bills for it... not to mention it's an AUTO....

Man, that car sounds like a pile! Keep looking, it takes time for the right car to pop up, but it will (im living proof).

seriously... that sounds like utter crap. it'd cost you more than the car's worth to get a manual swap, it'd cost you more than the car's worth for bodywork and paint, not to mention all the other little things used cars always need.... you'd probably blow 5 grand just to get an ugly faced 89 with a manual and shiny paint. don't bother.

89-90's are very low value cars at this time.
There are a lot of them out there. There are a lot of disadvantages to owning them to start. If you want to go SR which most 89-90 owners do to get rid of SOHC engine. You have to get the power steering lines from the 91 and up. There is more harness work too for the SR conversion.
That combined with the low resale value of 89-90's plays against you unless the car is clean and you get it cheap.
If you are getting a auto with hail damage then your looking at spending at least $1500 in mods just to make it look good and convert it to 5 speed. Ok add that to the purchase price and you most likely upside down value wise. Which means you are not going to get your money out of the car.
On the other side. If you get a 91 and up they still hold a decent blue book Value and market value which means its not a losing propisition.
At this point in time I would steer all people interested in S13's towards 91 -93's . Unless you got a clean 89-90 for under $1000.

I agree with everything said except these two things. You can very easily use the PS lines from the SOHC you just need the resovior(SP?). Also there are no wiring differances in installing a SR in a 89-90 or 91-94. Only differance is the plug under the dash and all you do it cut and splice it in no differance, same with the power plugs in the engine bay. I would buy a 89-90 if you are planning on doing a SR swap. Why pay the extra money for the DOHC? That being said I wouldnt buy the one your describing unless it was under $500 and you were willing to do the work to make it right.
