i posted this in the engine tech but it hasnt been getting any reviews and ive gotten no responses. i have searched on this topic quite a lot just need more things to try... thanks you guys
well here is where the problem first started, my throttle resonse wasnt always there... so i checked my tps and the wires were al jimmy rigged from the guy before me and i wiggled them around and my response was back. so i decided to rewire the stuff he did. and i calibrated the tps after that and it seemed to work fine but maybe with a little bog. i also cleaned out the iacv because i had a really stumbly idle. and it seemed to fix it and my idle was good again. everything seemed to be fine, went to an event. and about a week after that it seemed to be running a little rich, so i checked my timing and changed my coolant temp sensor and my o2 sensor. well my car (http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=199472#) is running REALLY rich now... i can smel the gas at stoplights. and my car is super boggy when on the gas. it seems like it is just dumping gas but its not doing anything. and when im at a stoplight it idles normally at around 750 but after a minute or so my rpms start bobbing up and down itll go to 900 then drop to 400 and it just keeps doing it until i start going again. not really sure what the problem is but its costing me a fotune in gas money.... and i have really crappy throttle response. please help you guys, thanks

maybe try a different o2 densor?
maybe try cleaning / replacing mafs?
check for an injector stuck open?
try replacing the TPS?
try reading codes off of the ecu?
all shots in the dark here, but def some things to check out.
good luck

possibly a leaky injector?
put your ecu in diagnostic mode 5 to check out the fuel mixture. i think its mode 5 but check the FSM
Mode II- Mixture ratio feedback control monitor
Mode V- Real-time diagnostics system.

thanks you guys, i have a feeling it has something to do with an injector because ive already cleaned mafs and tried 2 differnet mafs. i just recently changed the tps but it could be bad also... gotta get a voltmeter and check it out again
stinky 180, what is the fuel mixture supposed to be at? thanks

ok so i changed the fuel injectors and replaced the o-rings. car seems to run a little better but still smell gas. the o2 sensor i am using is the Bosch universal. if that matters. checked thet tps and seems to be good also. any other ideas? thanks

As long as you trust your hands to do the universal 02 sensor yourself then by all means, but personally I would spend the extra five or so dollars to get the OE replacement.

what do u mean trust your hands? u just cut the connector off and the Bosch comes with a little wire that already has the little crimp thing. i just want to know if the Bosch universal one is a good one to use, like is there something about itthat isnt to great? thanks. i think i am gunna pick up the oem one now

Personally I would solder and heatshrink it, but since I didn't really pay attention to it being a one wire, you really can't f**k that up haha
Sorry about that.
Well I work at an auto parts store and the Bosch 02's almost never come back, be them universal or not. They're pretty reliable parts, considering Bosch has been in the business for quite a long time. The only reason I would buy the OEM number is because it's "calibrated" for your vehicle as opposed to a unversal one wire. (I know they're damn near identical, but it's worth the extra 5 dollars.)

ya that is true... if i nothing else seems to be working i might just pick up the oem one. thanks

Kinda sounds like what my cars going through. Dumb rich, spiratic idle, horrible gas mileage.
The only thing with my car is that its throwing a C.E.L. (check engine light). Its my secondary o2 sensor thats causing the C.E.L.
Since my o2 sensor is basically not working, my ECU automatically throws my car in Open-loop. This causes my car to run pig rich.
FYI: You need to change your oil asap. Running this rich will wash down your cylinder walls and polute your oil with gas. This will wreak havoc on your bearings.

just changed my oil. and to asiankingz, i havent gotten a different o2 sensor yet. gunna do that last. it seems ike there was a lot of little things on this car that havent been as well maintained as i thought... but after i replaced the injectors and o rings it seemed to not run AS rich. i believe it is only running a little rich now because of the z32 fuel filter.

beast mode, how come you just dont change your o2 sensor if you know that is the cause of the problems?

a z32 fuel filter wouldn't make your car run richer, just to let you know.
make sure your injectors are pulsing right, and not just dumping fuel right into the cylinders.

Well, after going ka-t I eliminated my secondary o2 sensor after installing the downpipe and exhaust. Im still waiting on my o2 simulator to come in the mail. Since I have no cat or sensor, I'm gonna have to trick my ECU with the o2 sim.

trace your injector power wire back to the ecu (red with white dots, i belive). it might have a break in it and grounded out, this happend to me and had me scratching my head for two weeks. i was getting spark to the plugs and fuel all the way to the injectors just not out of them. also, if you have a KA24E and are running as a DD it's 18-19 years old and needs to have everything replaced more than likely. like.....
plugs
plug wires
coil
coolant temp sender to the gauge
coolant temp sender to the ECU
fuel pump and sock
fuel filter
fuel pressure regulator
02 sensors
starter (maybe)
alternator (maybe)
and maybe even a MAF if it's bad.
that's what i had to do to mine and now it runs great! 265,XXX miles and it still gets 23-26mpg and fires right up everytime.

no no no lol i wish! naw i have a 89 hatch with a KA24E auto (lame!) and 265,XXX miles on it. i was just saying some of the stuff i had to change/replace to get it running right. it also probily gets good milage because it hardly sees above 70mph unless i'm in a hurry. lol i don't want to push on it's old ass to hard before i get my SR finished.

hahah funny thing... i replaced ALL of that except the temp sensor that sends to the gauge. but it works good i think :) i took off my throttle body from my old car, cleaned EVERYTHING out spotless... put it on my new car. runs MUCH better, and no stumbly idle :) but..... still running a little rich. maybe ill check the injector grounds and stuff

it can be a vacuum leak aswell.. check all the air hose for any leaks.. we just fix an sr20 runnin all shitty n it was just the hose that was leakin air..

ya i read in this thread it could be the air hose from the black air box by the drivers side strut tower. Ill check it tommorrow at school, have my teacher lookin at it too hopefully. Im dynoing my car as well. ( its all stock ) but i wanna see what im starting with.

I'm having the same issues too. Let me know if the new o2 sensor works.

will do, im really hopping cuz i ran my car thew deq today, HC and CO was HIGH!!. HC is not suppose to exceed 220 and my car was like 1200!! and CO was 1.8 and its not suppose to be over 1. so im hoping that helps and i got a new cat to try if that dont work.

Your not running a walbro fuel pump are you? That can cause your car to run pretty rich with the stock FPR

Update: My rough/bouncy idle went away (no more stalling at stop lights) woohoo!!! Been having this issue for a while. I cleaned the MAF sensor and replaced my o2 sensor with a bosch unit from kragen. The car now idles really good and my check engine light went away! Hope this helps!
