silvia. sileighty is so bleh. some people's look good (sileightymania-but he's an original stateside i guess you could say). sil80 is too initial d-ish. go silvia. simple, clean, how the car should be.

that's my .02 cents

Thanks to the horrendously bad taste of most 240 owners, all these new sil80s are looking and performing like Chairman Mao's ass. &nbsp; This trend is so played out now. Thanks for ruining it guys.

If its tastefully done and not because of Initial D, then why not? &nbsp; There are plenty of clean Sil80's out there (Benson's is a perfect example, although his is scarily perfect &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> ). &nbsp;Nice ones can look as good as any Silvia.

Here's a clean one (Japanese pic, I think, but notice the Camaro in the background..."the grass is always greener...." &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

well by looking at my name, u can probably tell which one i would choose hehehe. once i get the funds, mine is most likely gonna be just like the pic posted above, except for the rims. im hoping i can get my hands on the non projector lights too, seeing as how they are soo rare.

so basically, its the sileighty, cuz the extra trunk space cant hurt. based on looks alone, id say theyre pretty much even, it depends on how i feel that day hehhe. but show me a nice and shiny black silvia, and im sold &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

I like the silvia the best, boxy front and rear. The sileighty has a boxy front with curved rear and just looks kinda odd...tho i still like them. The 180 is curved front and rear and looks great. s15sileighty (sil1580 or whatever) curved front and rear at least but the front is too large to look right IMO.

Personally I feel that any conversions that don't look like they COULD have come that way from the factory are a little much. I don't mean not putting a kit on, it should just look like some guy put a kit on not that he swapped the entire front end. Of the listed conversions, the 240sx coupe with s13 silvia front end is the only one that looks stock.

AKADriver
12-12-2002, 09:43 AM
The Sileighty was factory, though (of course, after it'd already been done aftermarket for years). &nbsp; And by extension you could say the S13 240SX coupe is wrong too (but I like it... especially with the later front end).

If you're set on a Silvia nose, explosive, I'd go with the coupe body... but I'd say go with the coupe body even if you weren't...

12-12-2002, 10:49 AM
well contrary to what some of you guys claim. I have seen the 1580 up close . The front is not to wide for the car. In fact as far as sil eighty goes the 1580 IMO is the sickest looking and it looks correct lines wise.
the standard sil eighty looks good with the aero bumper or the K's office bumper.
In response to cool cat S, Your statement about most 240 owners is a very biased broadly generalized statement. It also is pretty much untrue. I would say most 240 owners have better taste in body work than any Honda owner I have ever seen . Hahahhahhaha.

The secret to a good looking sil80:

LOTS OF MONEY.

If you're going to go the cheap route after getting the conversion, forget it. Just drive your car into a brick wall. Look at all the sil80 pics that explosive put up, most of those rims go for $2000+ with tires. Don't forget the cost of springs or coilovers, paint, and a bodykit if you want to go that route.

AKADriver
12-12-2002, 12:45 PM
Well, uh, that could be applied to any car.

You don't have to spend a stupid amount of money on a sileighty to look decent. &nbsp; The key is just being careful where you spend it. &nbsp;Use a stock Silvia bumper with a lip instead of a full imported body kit. &nbsp;Go for used or normally available in the US new wheels instead of brand new imported stuff. &nbsp;Respray the new panels in your car's original color instead of going for a color change. &nbsp;Go with a good spring/strut combo instead of coils. &nbsp;Be proud of your zenki taillights instead of dropping 5 bills on kouki units.

What looks half-assed is a lack of attention to detail, not a lack of aftermarket parts. &nbsp;Go to Benson's site and look at his list of modifications; outside of engine and suspension stuff it's short. &nbsp; But his car looks good because of attention to detail.

Dousan_PG
12-12-2002, 02:32 PM
benson's car is pretty simple

suspension:
coilovers
tc rods
stbs

engine:
stock (powerwise)
bov
koyo

all the money went to wheels hahaa..car looks good though. i like the interior he's got now, nice stuff.

anyways
i say go old school!!! chuuki bumper, low offest wheels, lotsa camber (only if you drift or road race---NO POSERS--meaning lots of camber for your city driving) and maybe a simple spoiler..hmm

ok enough of my crap opinino. its your car, THNK FOR YOURSELF

i'm going to have to go ahead and say that the s15 sileighty/1580 is by far the best looking. if i had the money, i'd totally go for it. but since i don't, and since i don't really like the s13 sil front end... the 180/USDM 240 hatch is the best of the given. just give me a PDM lower lip on my '92 and i'm set.

hahahha. The funny thing about that statement is, Benson has already said to me on occasion that there were two many Black sil eightys out there already. He already feels like he has been copied way to much.
I personally own a Metallic Gun Metal Grey 92 SE hatch without sunroof. It already stands out. It will get Kouki tails becuase I think the car looks good with them. I also would love to do a 1580. I am not going to spend $2000-3000 on a S15 front end kit though . I would have to get a serious hook up to do it.
I will most likely go type &nbsp;x front end because I am a big fan of urethane bumpers over fiberglass,
As far as my rear goes that remains to be sign if I do anything it will be something that has never been seen in the states.
For now though I focus more on my drivetrain and suspension.
After all my car is meant to be driven not stared at.
When I was at the National convention it was kinda weird. I mean the cars were almost to clean. Like all show.
these cars are should be driven and driven hard. Be it autocross , touge or drift.
Bensons car looks good in pics . I have seen the battle scars though.
He drives it like it should be. Function over form period. Look good but do not sacrifice usability for the sake of looks.

Umm... why are we all swinging off Benson's nuts all of a sudden? It's not like Benson came up with the concept of a SilEighty -- all he did was copy what people in Japan had been doing for years. Its no different than whats happening now. Other people are copying Benson, who in turn copied others.

So I fail to see where the "Let's-all-swing-off-Benson's sack" comes in. No offence (sic) intended to Benson, but really now, kids. He's just like the rest of us, no more, no less.

Anyway, to get back on topic, I happen to like the SilEighty. but thats just me. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

i wouldnt say "at the moment" its been popular for many many years, remember, 180sx and silvias (s13) stopped production in 96? i forget, but before 2000.

pop-up front ends are relatively cheap too, 180sx was a very popular automobile.

as far as "hanging off benson's nutsack" (not exact quote) yeah that's true, but sil80 in my opinion is a drift car. not a show car or poser car. people had sil80 ORIGINALLY because their 180sx front end was crunched and a s13 front end was cheap and easy to replace it with. benson drifts (and damn good as well) so i think he has all the reason. for all the posers out there who want a MaD pHaT SiLeIgHtY Yo...you people make me sick.

ok that's all for now.

heh, well, vanity is the only reason to do it in the US, when a 180/240SX front end is so much cheaper. &nbsp; Not that there's anything wrong with that... &nbsp; My GTI has the front end from a Jetta on it... &nbsp;just don't kid yourself by saying it's "for drifting".

drift freaq

I would totally agree with dousan,
my comments about what Benson said were based on stuff here in cali.
Neither Benson or I have either believed he was doing something that was not copied from drifters in Japan. In fact it would be somewhat ludicrous and very pretentious for him to think that. He doesn't plain and simple.
though when Benson first did it here over close to three years ago, it was unique to Cali.
That is what he was commenting to me about. Now everyone down here is doing it.
People do like to feel somewhat unique. 240 owners especially, we stand out . Mostly because our cars are more function over form. We tend to be less into form.
This is way I made my original statement about the &nbsp;National convention.
It scares me when I start seeing 240's so clean you eat off them . It basically means the driver either A: washes it everyday and or B: does not drive it but parks it for looks.
Yes I am getting my dings and dents fixed and my car repainted .
Don't believe for second though that shit might happen . I do not drive my car softly. I am notorious for abusing the *(&^ out of it. hahahhahhahahaha
drive it sideways? hell yes!!! Push it as hard as possible ? hell yes!!
oops fender gets scraped damn oh well sooner later its back to the paint shop but if it gets battle scars it comes with the territory.
Now remember the best place to do these things is on tracks.
(non street racing disclaimer has been inserted, hehehhe)

Dousan_PG
12-13-2002, 11:17 AM
i agree. i am getting my car repainted nice and "showy" of sorts next year it seems..get those dents out too..only to be replace w/ new ones soon enough.

i go to the track 2-3 times a month now and most of next year too it seems. i beat the hell out of it, that's what its for....

as drift freaq said about the convention...SO MANY CLEAN CARS. how many of those 240sx were at the track the following day? there wasnt much. it was pretty disappointing.

LOL - what a funny topic. &nbsp;

I'm w/ AKA here - I can shell an entire fastback 240 a minimum of three times before I get near the cost of a single Silvia nose. &nbsp;As was said, it ain't for drifting - but it does/did look different. &nbsp;

For the most part, I'm just a fan of do what you want for the purpose you are doing it. &nbsp; If you are going to be the next drift king, I would advise using/keeping the cheaper front of the two. &nbsp; If you want to show your creativity, drop the coin. &nbsp; We don't all have to race or drift (or make excuses as if we did). &nbsp; It's OKAY to just want a nice clean car.

Personally, I've got no problem w/ the guys who take their car to the show and then don't drive them on the track... so long as they don't start telling me about how they race and how everything is all about performance. &nbsp;Show cars are okay - but don't tell me it's a race car.

I have 2 Sileighties. I love them. They have the advantage of being "different". You see a lot of 180's around but only a handful of Sileighties.

An advantage as I see it is that you have the best looking part of the Silvia matched up with the best looking part of the 180. The best of both.

Funny thing though.....
My son drives one of the cars. ANd I drive the other. A guy in a Silvia came up to him the other day and asked how hard it would be to put the back end of a 180 on his Silvia. My son nearly laughed in his face.... he said, "Oh it is really hard!...but worth it!" :D

The only reason to go sil-eighty is because of Initial D. If I still had my s13 I'd have gone sil-eighty by now, and I'd be proud to say that the reason is because of Initial D. I mean.... Initial D was the reason I looked into a rear wheel drive car anyways. Before that I wanted a Corrado (supercharger anyone?).

The REAL lame people are the people that jumped the Initial D bandwagon later and ruined it for all us original Initial D fans. We had a good thing going untill people tried humping curbs on their own....

how can you judge something youve never seen? i used to be into initial d but then it got kinda trendy so i backed off a bit. i still think its a pretty good anime though. i knew about sileighties well before i even heard about initial d. i used to want to make one, and then i thought about an S14 sileighty, but that kinda faded. i still wouldnt mind having one, cause i personally think its pretty cool and nice looking. theres no real reason for it other than to look different, and for style. anything about it being about drifting is BS. to wach his own though. dont hate.

I would say go with whatever you want. If you like, then do it. Who cares what other people think. Too many people are carried away with what the car looks like and what people who see them will associate them with or label them as. It's your car and you can do what ever you want to do with it but it's not your penis. Don't get that confused or let other people who are confused bother you. But don't jump on the bandwagon just because others are doing it. "It was in a magazine! Must be cool!"

I have never seen Initial D in m life and I don't plan too. I haven't even heard of it till I moved to the states (5 months ago) but I've always wanted to go sil-eighty because (like dousan said earlier) it was the cheaper alternative to getting your smashed 180 fixed right and I like the ghetto (*maybe* oldschool) look compared to the nice-flashy-showoff-blingbling look.

ABSOLUTELY!! and if it is a GENUINE Sileighty it has the turbo as well. Great cars!!

BTW I can't imagine that anyone would creat a car just because of a CARTOON!!! Nissan manufactured these things for a short period of time. (JDM though) So there is more to interest in them that a bunch of cartoon watching kids. I am 50 years old and don't watch cartoons.
