im planning on buying the Apexi Dual N1 exhaust for the 89-93 model s13 and i wanna know is it only the exhaust thats $530 or does it come with the downpipe? cuz thats alot of $$$ for only the exhaust.

it's a "catback" exhaust. therefore, it comes with everything from the Catalytic Converter to th rear of the car.
the "downpipe" is a turbo-related part, and it connects from the turbo outlet housing to the cat.
in the box from Apex'i, you will be getting two sections:
midpipe with resonator
rear section with muffler cans

that's not a lot of money, you are being cheap (saying this semi-jokingly). its just the exhaust. most QUALITY exhausts will run you that much or more. apex is very high quality products, excellent piece of work.
"you gotta pay to play" i guess is appropriate here.
its a good investment in your car, you wont regret it.

The guys at enjuku are easy to deal with and fast with shipping. The price isn't bad either. Your not just getting the muffler, it the whole system. You'll love it after it comes I'll tell you that

Yes its expensive compared to domestic car exhausts, My frined has a Mustang GT and he is looking at exhausts for like 250-300 and they are good exhausts.
But with imports you have to watch what you buy because you get what you pay for with cars like the 240sx you can get a cheap muffler and your car will sound like total shit. But with the n1 Dual, yes it is expensive but it sounds great.

It's the fad right now- N1 dual this- N1 dual that.
The N1 from the same place is $409, so everyone is gladly paying $120 for the LOOK.
Get a quote for shipping on these bad boys!
A cheaper option for the same quality is just get a N1 muffler $200 and super-cheap shipping, and have a custom muffler shop weld up the pipes, I'm sorry people--> a 3 inch pipe is a 3 inch pipe! Especially since we're not talking stainless steel here. Mandrel bent of course.
If you got the blingbling to buy the blingbling then fine, it's your car - do what you want to it.
But you don't have to "Pay to Play" since the discussions are never centered around performance but the look.</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>
First off, companies that make exhausts have tons of money put into research and development on the exhaust. This is much better than some schmuck that is trying to just "make it fit". Also, if you pay $200 for an Apexi N1 muffler, and another $200 for custom bent exhaust (which most people will, easily) then you have already paid the same ammount of money for an Apexi full cat-back system.
About the dual. It's not truely a $120 difference, as you will save a lot of money in shipping. The N1 exhaust is shipped in a 9' box, and is extremely expensive. The N1 Dual is shipped in 2 boxes, and you don't have to pay terrifying "oversized box" shipping charges. Finally, the N1 Dual is a better exhaust, period. It uses smaller tubes to create the backpressure and scavenging effect that is needed for torque. The design of the exhaust lowers the torque loss, and will ultimatly give a higher HP ability, becuase the combined pipe area is larger than 3", but without the terrible effects of a pipe more than 3".
I think that people get the Dual for the "slight" price difference, and how much better it is than the N1 single.

really? My duals came in one box. New packaging?
ERic
i got mine in one box as well...
it is a beautiful exhaust, and top notch quality as well.
i'd say "the Look" is all these ghey ractive single pipe apexi knock-offs. the dual escapes that.
it is worth in excess of $120 just to differentiate away from posers.

What are you talking about? We're talking about Apexi products only here. Also, a custom muffler shop means just that- I am not talking about a corporate muffler shop with franchises nationwide- a custom muffler shop is usually family owned and been in business a very long time- they attract business from both the regular consumer and racers (import and domestic). Sounds like you've convinced yourself JDM means quality and joe blow knows nothing- this is not a smart way of thinking.</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>
Um. I know what a muffler shop is. And mandrel benders are hard to come by in Florida. I have heard from a couple exhaust shops that there are one or 2 mandrel bending machines in Florida. Anyway, if you read anything I have ever posted, I am not JDM. If Apex'i was in America, I would still give props to Apex'i. But I like the 5Zigen Fireball better for performance. <-- Digression.

You forgot shipping and/or tax. Plus there are guys that exist that will have some shop install for them.
But anyway- which shop quoted you $200 for a mendrel bent 3inch cat to muffler pipe setup?!? That is ludicrous- I think you just made up that number to support your argument- which doesn't hold water, sorry. Also, a 3 inch mandrel bent pipe is, guess what, a 3 inch mandrel bent pipe! No research there my friend, only one way to get a 3 inch pipe from the cat to the muffler. <!--emo&<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>
Yea. Tax. I think that if you have someone make an exhaust that you have taken your car to, you will pay tax. But if you buy stuff online, there is no tax, unless you are in the same state. Shipping isn't usually terrible.
I have been quoted $550 for crush-bent intake pipeing, and a turbo down-pipe. This was a guy in Avon Park, FL, who had been in business for 30 years. I have also been quoted by some guy in his garage $250 for 2.5" crush bent exhaust made for my car. Finally, there is always room for error and change in an exhaust system. If there was only one way to make the pipe, wouldn't one company have the patent on the piping, and all other companies just make mufflers? Nope. There is at least a 30% change, where the bends are, how sharp, how it's going over the rear axle.

Sure. Difference in price is $120. But if you read, you'll see that shipping is vastly more expensive for the single than the dual, which lessens the price difference if you do math.

Ok. If my words aren't good enough for you, here is the quote from the Apex'i site:
The use of smaller piping diameter helps retain more mid-range torque. The Dual N-1 does not sacrifice peak horsepower because the dual pipes can handle more exhaust gas volume. Wasn't that kinda close? I just gave a reason why. I didn't get it from Taco-Bell, I'm not a fuckin riceboy, and that statement wasn't full of shit, or was Apex'i site's statement full of shit too? Yea, I am out of highschool, with a 3.4GPA. I'm currently in college for Pre-Medicine and Pre-Law. I'm not a fuckin dumbass. And West made me a moderator. Just because you don't like me becuase I do a job that gets no thanks, no pay, and doesn't really have guidelines posted, I get jumped on. Get off your high horse, and admit that every post of yours I locked was due to name calling. Yet I don't lock posts that are directed towards me, becuase people have the right to speak out about moderators. If you seriously have a problem with me, take it up with me off the board, or with West. Untill then, admit that this entire post was a stab at me, because you obviously either didn't read my post, or just cut it apart to have a reason to post.

Uhm, dude go back and re-read what was posted. You called him out first by insulting him and saying that basically he was some know-nothing newbie that was still in high school. He pointed out information that was already posted by Apexi on their website. Take in mind that he pointed to the fact that the difference in pricing becomes less when the shipping of the N1 Single vs. the N1 Dual is factored in. Also, not EVERYONE buys the N1 Dual because of the LOOK. Granted many probably do buy it for the looks, there are those that buy it for the sound, those that buy it for the rarity of the system, those that buy it for the performance and then those that buy it for other reasons. Oh, and where EXACTLY was he calling you names? I might have missed that post, but I don't see him insulting you, but rather more defending himself against personal attacks which are very unneccesary.
If you know a good shop that does mandrel bending and you trust there work and would rather go a cheap route, go through them. If you want a quality exhaust system from a manufacturer Apexi makes a quality exhaust system for not a huge amount of money (relatively speaking). Personally I would rather pay for a proven system, but that is me.

hahah funny, this kid james is probably some 14 year old that doesn't even have his car yet..
At any rate, the custom mandrel bent set ups may be just as good, BUT a quality set up will cost you money for the right materials and the mandrel bending. The only time I've seen cheap custom exhaust set ups were crush bent and thats just a waste of time. Why get a quality exhaust like Apex-i? Simple, the money was put forth into research to design an exhaust with minimal bends and the right exhaust flow. The engineers haven't spent their 10 years in the business doing shit, sitting on their thumbs. They've been winning the D1 Grand Prix, GT300 in 2000 and 2001. Well either way, do things right with your car the first time or else you'll most likely have to go back and change the stupid mistake you made.
