I have an old school hks turbo timer(the kind that looks like a profec b, the first one) and its not working right.

it has four settings:
1min
3min
5min
and a continuous setting

The issue is when I press any of the settings and the car is on and running. I turn it al the way off and it does what it should for about 5-10 sec then turns off.

When the ignition is on but the car is not running and I turn it off, the car stays on for as long as whatever setting its on... WTF ???

Is my turbo timer fried or just so old that I should just replace it or is it some easy fix im overlooking ?

I don't know the wiring diagram, but generally the car has 2 wires that get power with the ignition switched to ON:

1) gets power at ACC and ON;
2) gets power at ON and ST.

Take a look at the car again. Get the engine running. Turn your radio on. Hit the setting and take the key out.

Does the engine die after 5-10 seconds but the radio stays on? It's supposed to do the opposite, i.e. kill all the accessories but keep the engine on.

If that's the case, you have your 2 wires backward.

If not report back and we'll see.

No, it does what it should with the car running and when the radio and crap are just on(car not running). But when the car is running it does not keep it running as long as it should after the key is turned off.

My buddy told me thats what happened to his friends, and he ended up just getting a new TT and it worked fine. So your TT might be fried.

Just double check your wiring.

We have a little problem with reading comprehension. Let's try this again.

Get the engine running. Turn your radio on. Hit the setting and take the key out.

What happens after this in terms of engine and radio?

Ok, when everything is on(motor, radio, the works) and the timer is set. I turn the key off and the timer works fine, for 5-10 secs then turns off(like it would after the time runs out).

If I turn the key but do not start the engine, set the timer and then turn the key off. The timer works just fine. Just not when the engine turns on. Very seldom it will work when the engine is on(very seldom).

Yes. The wire needs to see ground. Doesn't matter if it's auto or manual.
