do you know how large a z32TT engine is?
you will require A LOT of modification.....and probaly cutting of the frame (near strut towers and such)
a z32TT engine barely fits in a z32TT..lol

I hate heard of people putting the Z31 engine in a 240, although I am not sure where. That ia a single turbo setup if I am not mistaken.

I asked McKinney about it, but to no avail. It has been done and will probably be done again (hell, maybe you). I think I searched on google for that before....key word SEARCHED!!

Anything is possible but why would you want to go through the trouble of cutting and welding new mounts and everything. For the same amount of $$$ you could swap a rb25det or something of the sort.

the 300zx engine is too big and heavy for a 240. why not stick with a ka24 engine?

o totally agree with everyone hear, excpet i have seen the swap done b4, (in person) and they did not have to gut the strut towers or any part of the frame.
the swap isnt worht it, if any thing go with the Z31 swap if you really want a 300z engine. personally if you wann be different from sr i'd say:
1. turbo KA
2. CA18det
3. RB20
all havebeen done, and are fairly easy. no major work.
if you wanna be a complete an total mad scientist, talk to tater bout his sick ass swap

Or go with a small block v8. . . those are usually interesting.
I recall a post long ago saying the VG30DETT swap really wasn't that difficult. Don't quote me on any of this, as it's from a long ago post, but. . . To get the motor to fit you will need custom motor mounts and a shorter driveshaft (maybe a new hood? I thought I read that somewhere. . . ). Anyhow, from my brief looks at Z's, the engine bay isn't really any bigger. It looks to be wider than that of a 240, but definitely seems shorter. 'Course, it's the width that will be the pain in a v-* engine If you have the time and money to invest, it will probably be worthwhile, the VG has a lot of potential.
We don't need to get into arguments about engines being too big and heavy. The VG will through your weight balance towards the front a bit, but keep in mind it will be a shorter engine than the KA, putting more weight behind the front wheels and help keeping a degree of balance. I don't have any exact figure, but you can be sure it will make the car overall heavier.
All in all, if you're looking at a crazy new motor swap, you may want to even consider a lighter car. What was the curb wait on the 240z or 260z? 2300, 2400lbs?

The Vg30dett Has only 3 motor mounts, 2 on the bottom of the motor and one on the end of the tranny. The two motor mounts mount to the lower cross member of the Z. In order to make this swap work you would have to fabricate up your own Center cross member. Also the VG30dett engine is over 700pnds with tranny. A Rb26dett with tranny and turbos is only 550 or so. I would stay away from this swap. And if you do pull it off then you have to worry about the tranny mount. And the changed center of gravity, and drive shaft angle, and teh fact that the motor would stick above the hood about 6 inches. Etc Etc Etc. Go with the Rb series motor. They dont like to trow rods like the VG30dett does.

Where did you come by this piece of information?

Toso.....
I came by this info from first hand. I have blown up 4 vg30dett motors all by spinning a crank bearing and then throwing a rod. usually cylinder no 2. no 2 has the most distance on the crank between the main studs and develops crank walk very easily.
