I did a search and to my surprise didn't come up with much. I wanted to know which turbos bolt onto the stock S14 SR20 manifold? Does anyone make an upgraded stock turbo?
Thanx

Ballistic concepts makes a SS turbo housing that bolt up for wastegate on turbo and use thier new wheels I think you can get that for the T-25 flange given it is a rather common garett turbo flange also an s-15 T-28 will work I will check into other options tonight and post more info tomorrow

Sadly, NONE of those are "bolt-on" with a LHD car. I asked Wayne. He said they would all require modification to the manifold...and that's one of the main things you're paying for.

bugger that sux. arent they all stock location mounted though? what wont fit? did he say? i was really looking at on of the Tomei arms kits with one of those nice looking KMD replacement manifolds.

You might as well just piece something together if you're going to all that trouble. The kits usually come with piping, and all that, and if you change the mounting point, that's all useless. So basically, you'll be paying a really high price for just a turbo. Why not just get the KMD mani and then pick a turbo/injectors/cams/ecu/etc.?
Oh, and he said the clearance issues depended on the manufacturer. Some get in the way of the master cylinder, others hit the steering rack. Both of those are party stoppers.

yeah I had considered that too. my reliance on kits is partially due to my desire NOT to do math lol. I thought the KMD mani put the turbo in the stock location though? which was why it was on the list. trying to keep everything stock location to avoid said clearence issues. oh well it'll be awhile before I dive into that anyway so it gives me time to figure out comp maps and such man I hate math. but it'll probably work out better. I wanna do fuel cams RAS and headgasket before I get to that anyway so I'll probably want to custom build the turbo to compliment all that.

yeah, the KMD mani *does* keep it in the stock location. That's why I was suggesting it as a good idea.
you're going to be pulling the head? are you planning on BIG numbers? i would leave that alone unless you're going for 400+ hp. oh, and if you want that much power, you need a BIG turbo anyway...i don't think any of the bolt-on kits are that big. i think they're designed for around 325-350 hp.

hmmm I wonder if you can turn the KMD manny upside down? Like everone does with the revhard.

I'll try it once I get my manny. This damn turbo thing is taking way to long.

Hey you think I could put that 2540 on at stock boost (10psi I think) with 370's and stock mafs?

thats what I thought (about the KMD) hoping since everything was stock location I wouldnt have clearance issues. I think the bigger of the 2 Tomei kits is rated at 420
as for the head stuff well I wanna do mild cams nothing too huge and figured if I was gonna do that might as well do the HG RAS and valve springs. not looking for any particular number just as long as it stays fast and fun

What makes you think stock boost is 10psi? Just curious. Could you use the OEM SR wastegate actuator for the time being? Will it bolt on? I don't know if it's got the same bolt pattern...you could just make an adapter plate too.
That would give you 7 psi, obviously.
At 10 psi, that turbo is going to be flowing a LOT more air than your T25...but that doesn't mean it won't work. I think the best thing to do would be to put it in and just watch your 02 readings carefully. If it pings, you could start by getting an adjustable FPR. Raise the base pressure. If not that, get an S-AFC and some 550s...not the cheap route, but it would work.
Don't know what else to say. Just try it an tell us

Don't know why I think it's 10psi. I have a good reason for thinking that I just forgot where I got that info from.
Here's my plan as of today. Once I install that HKS camp I'll be able to monitor my injector duty cycle. Then I'll go ahead and grab the manny and turbo extension. Swap out actuators (great idea! and boost at 7psi till I power FC/injectors/mafs.
i'm just getting really really sick of staring at that damn turbo every morning. Really starting to piss me off.
PS, I wouldn't trust the S-AFC further than I could throw it. I might as well get a JWT Ecu retune for that matter or wait even better just take a sledge hammer to my motor...Same effect
As you can see I'm not a fan of those two options.
uiuc240
12-11-2002, 10:59 AM
wow, you really hate the S-AFC...why? I can understand not wanting to tune with it. But using it to adjust the fuel curve for 550s and a Z32 MAFS is child's play from what I hear. It's just an adjustment to the voltage. But whatever.
Yeah, that actuator swap plan sounds like a good idea. Do it, go fast, and take pictures
