View Full Version : Hating Life because of battery draining

I cannot begin to explain how much I just want to light my car on fire and punch all of the windows out. Anyway, I just put a kouki front end on my s14 and after doing that I realized that my battery was being completely drained of power. I have no clue what the problem is but I have checked all of the fuses by hooking up a test light to the negative terminal of the battery and pulling each fuse out at a time. I am getting amps drawn on the test light, if that makes sense. I dont think its the HID's I installed because they arent getting power when the ignition is off. Somebody help me with this before I blow my car up.
And on top of that problem, I ripped my whole dash apart to install a truboost and after 3 hours I gave up. The wires just dont want to go through tight spaces.

Have you checked if you alternator is charging? Have you tried jump starting the car? Does it even crank? Have you charged the battery? How are the grounds? Battery terminals?

I don't understand what you're doing. You have one wire of the test light hooked up to battery (-).
What does the other wire of the test light hook up to?

Everything above is fine, something is staying on in the electrical system and draining my battery and I have no clue what it is. My car runs fine, but after an hour or so I have to put a jumper box on it to start it. When I was trying to find what was wrong I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery, took a test light hooked it to the negative terminal and then held the negative wire with the test light. If there is light, then that means amps are being drawn somewhere. Are there any other ways to find whats drawing the power?

I had a similar problem but did a little different method with the fuses. While the car was off I put a multimeter in series with the battery cable and battery terminal, when I pulled the fuse for the problem the heavy current went away and just had the lower current for the interior lighting left. Hope this helps.

Can you explain again what you're doing?
You have one wire of the test light going to the battery's negative terminal. Where is the other wire of the test light?
I have no idea what you're doing.
Of course if you put the other wire of the test light to positive current you'll see the light come on. This doesn't mean that there is voltage leak.

you got the right idea with the test light. get it out again. this time, disconnect the negative battery terminal, and connect the test light between negative battery post and the chassis. you should see the light come on a bit, and thats your draw. then, 1 by 1, pull out every fuse, look for change in light, then put it back. this is how i found my draw, turns out one of my headlight motors was actually drawing... just goes to show it could be anything. goodluck
when you pull a fuse and the light goes out / dims drastically. all you have to do is figure out what fuse that was and you know where the problem is.

Sounds like you have whats called parasitic draw, hard as fuck to find where the problem is bro, check and make sure there isn't anything grounding off
Edit: Nice one frosti didn't see your post!

The thing that puzzles me is that the only thing I changed were the headlights, corners and blinkers and when I use the test light and start pulling fuses for the headlights, the light doesn't dim. None of the fuses that get power when the ignition is off, when pulled out, make the light dim. Its making me wonder if I wired up the HID's correctly but they are completely off when the ignition is off. Yesterday when I was trying to fix the problem, I found that the what ever is on is drawing a full 12V because the light is at its brightest.
you might just need a new battery with my car i had a simular issue and i thought it was the head lights cause i was running aftermarket hids. i would jump start it and it would run fine all day but the next day it would be completly drianed. i replaced the battery and its all good now.

yeah i feel for ya' i was having a similiar problem. if the car sat for more then like 2 hours it would be completley drained. i wound up stripping everything off and getting a new shell.

sound about right. look at glove box light, trunk light, stupid shit like that usualy cause the problem

^ glove box light is common in a lot of cars.

I dont have a glove box light. I have narrowed it down to the "electron batt" fuse behind the kick panel. I ripped apart my whole dash board to try and find something that could be on. Im really getting tired of looking for something that is probably so simple.

How old is your battery? Did you let the car sit for more than a couple of days? Check the easy things first, get your battery checked my it just has a low charge or maybe it needs to be replaced. And if it keeps draining then maybe you want to check your alternator. If you dont want to deal with it just let a pro handle it, but it can honestly be something easy and stupid. Good luck bro dont give up.

My battery is about 2 years old, but I have it mounted in the trunk with a disconnect so that when I am at school, I can turn it off. But I think I may have narrowed down my problem. After I wired up my AEM TruBoost today and turned on the ACC, nothing happened and none of my guages were moving at all. All of that makes sense because the "Electron Batt" fuse , when pulled out" stopped the amp drawage. Ill have an update on everything tomorrow after I pull my dash out.
