So, I've got an s13 sr, and j30 vlsd, maybe with my bad description someone could tell me what this is so i can fix it- When reversing, I get a strange grinding sound from the rear passenger side of the car. Not like a metallic sound as if the brake pads had worn down and were scraping the warning piece on the pad, but more as if you were backing up really slowly and the tire was rubbing the fender almost. BUT....the tire is definately not rubbing the fender. Any idea what this might be? Could it be the differential?

err...fail on my part. forgot to add - if I push the brakes in a little it stops. likewise if I let off the brakes it starts again.

Its a common S13 Gremlin, pretty much everones S13 does it at some point.
Mine Does it comes and goes sometimes I went 5 lug, removed the rear dust shields, new 5 lug rotors, new rear calipers, new pads, still grinds sometimes.
Its no big deal, Nothings gonna fall apart, just get use to it.

someone I asked told me one of the caliper bolts may be loose/missing. So I'll check that, and make sure the bearings aren't gone...if I cant figure it out I guess I can let it ride...it doesn't bother me too bad..haha

I have s imilar sound, people are telling me to lube the guide pins on the calipers, which i will do along with new pads/rotors.
