Hey guys
over the next couple of months, i plan on taking my 240 to the next level. as it sit, to the best of my knowledge the car has 220xxx on it. she still runs good and is in great shape, but i want to start to grip race at a local track. i dont have a ton of money i want to sink into this car, i just want it to be a good platform for me to learn on, and in the future the car may get a little more wild.
i bought the car in august 07 for a whopping $802 not running. i spent $2 on new battery terminals and the car started right up. i have sine put maybe $500 into it driving it ALL winter.
now i have decided to start racing, and this is a great car to do so with. i want to get it into top shape before i start beating the shit out of it though, so here is where my build thread comes in.
i plan on updating this tread often, so keep coming back
Plans:
polys all around
kyb agx/tien springs
obx helical differential
moog ball joints and tierod ends
f1 stage one clutch and lightweight flywheel
b&m short throw shifter
z32 brakes & MBC
ss brake lines
quiet exhaust
and im going to go through the ka24e with a finetooth comb, new gaskets and seals, get it ready to be beat on
here she is nice and clean before tear down

Rear sub-frame is first on the list. polys all around, new ball joints, and a helical diff. i was looking at the ES sub frame inserts and im not too pleased with them. i think im going to window weld the stock bushings instead. good idea??

lol at the bushings, those were a PITA to do, good idea though, will feel nice. It seems you are new to the racing scene, so be sure to pick up a book on racing and its responsibilities. my favorite is "City Drag Racing" by Nick Hogan. It comes with an exceptional collectible dust cover that any bibliophile could be proud to display.
BTW where is WB mich?

lol, i'll send you two steelies with good rubber for free, just pay shipping
you lucky stiff, look at that big ass shop you have.
and hey, what's wrong with the ES bushing inserts? i'm using them along with aluminum collars and imo it's better than when it originally came from the factory.
i love seeing what everyone else is up to, yay for pics +1

congrats on beginning the build:) most track cars usually arent that crazy anyways. They try to keep things as simple as possible, so it lessens the chance of something going wrong.

as soon as i can find a nice set of old school wheels, they tri-spoke are long gone.
and as for the es inserts, they didnt feel very stiff, i could dig my nail pretty far into them. the plan is to never have to drop the rear end again, so i just got some aluminum bushings.
thanks for the comments guys. any one know a nissan part number for the diff output shaft seals??

now i have decided to start racing, and this is a great car to do so with.

i want to go the the nissan dealer, and just have the p# ready so i dont have to hole the parts counter guys hand through the entire process of finding a part from a car built in 89. i have dealt with this retard a few times. not pleasant.
and no drifting for me. maybe if there was a place locally to do it, but there is not, so it will be a grip car.

Thursday
today was all about the diff. i had about 3 hours to put the new diff in the case. it went fairly smooth considering this is the first time i have ever done it. the obx hlsd fit perfectly. it does not need to be shimmed which is a load off my mind. it was not exactly spec, but it will not be an issue. this weekend, probably sunday night, i plan on taking the front suspension off the car, and next week is all about bushings

Today i had a little bit of time between work and dinner with the gf, so i decided to start taking the front suspension off. some things i noticed is that i need a new steering rack and my 3 month old moog tie rod ends have blown boots so i want poly boots for them.
i want to delete power steering since i have to get a new rack, but i dont want to use a power steering rack w/o power steering. does anyone make a true manual steering rack for a s13?? also i assume i can find boots, but is there any place that is be cheaper??
i only got the drivers side done today, ill do the pass side before i go to the shop tomorrow.
Update tomorrow night :bigok:

i still need to paint the front suspension components, figure out how the hub assemblies come apart so i can get new lug studs and paint everything, paint the axles, press all the new ball joints in, put the bushings in and reassemble.

Hey guys
due to what seems lack of interest i have not been keeping up to date on my thread. i have gotten my suspension build done for now. i still have a few things left to do, but my daily driver gtp started ticking, i think its a lifter, and it needs a trans in the worst of ways, so i wanted to get the 240 back on the ground so i can drive it. i still need to get new lug studs and nuts, and paint the front lip. im going to pull the motor over winter and over haul it, and install my new clutch, and hopefully paint, maybe by the end of the summer.
Parts ready to be installed
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b158/scooz13/DSC05663.jpg

ngr wheel, momo hub i absolutely love it
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b158/scooz13/DSC05746.jpg
overall impressions, its REALLY stiff, but i like it like that. the diff clunks on and off power, but i have read thats normal. the exhaust sits crooked which kind of bugs me. it is not very loud with the silencers in, and sounds real good w/o them in. im leaving them in though. but over all i am VERY pleased with it
