Are there any ways to get a quicker launch in an auto 240?

Yes, i know i need to do the 5-speed swap (i really really want to), but i just cant afford it right now.....i just bought an exhaust. So is there anything i can do?

By the way, this is for LEGAL racing (RaceLegal.com 1/8 mile
races at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA). Can i hang at all? Thanks.

p.s. i have an S14

no luck with the search. I saw something about removing some wire to make the car shift harder, but thats about it. I'm not looking to shift harder. I'm looking for ways to launch faster from a stand still. Sorry to everybody about any confusion. Thanks.

Hold Brake with left foot then press the gas reving it as high as it can go before breaking free of the brakes, when the light turns green (actually let go at the last yellow bulb) let go of the brake and floor it. I also use to shift for my old car (1->2->D) But thats cause it didn't shift when i wanted it to, your car maybe different. Those are the main things I have learned going to a drag strip with a auto.

i understand what your saying, but wont this burn up my rear brakes?

It won't burn out your brakes if you aren't spinning your tires. But, you will need some badass brakes back there. My car tires let go at 2000 rpm. With stock rear brakes, shitty pads, and z-rated tires.

Theres also some clip you can undo which would make the tranny shift much quicker but I dont think its very good for the transmission itself.

It's on the driver's side fender, right where it bolts to the wheel well. It is the only grey plastic clip there. You can undo it if you want, but I think that it hurts stuff. My tranny kicks hard, and makes metal on metal clangs when it shifts. Just waiting for it to die so I can swap!

u can do tha braking technique, but i find i get the best launches when i dont floor the car right away, nissan has a .1 or .5 second pause encoded in the ecu if u floor it, so dont floor it, once ur going u can floor it and that, in my opinion works the best

me and my friend both did the 1/8th in his auto se-r. i use brakes + gas then let off brakes to launch(not my car, dont want to break it), he put it in neutral and revved to about4k, and dropped it into D, (neutral drop, bad for tranny). the result was my method had faster reaction time, but slower 60' and eventually slower 1/8th... so faster reation using the delay with neutral drop he wouldve beaten my reation and my time making it the fastest method. i dont recommend cuz it hurts tranny and no good... but its def the fastest way i know of. i even tried it once in a 4cyl plymouth voyager, and spun front right tire on dry street. ouch

Don't do that...you'll be hurting your tranny and dealing with the dread check engine light for awhile.

The best way to launch is the brake throttle technique that someone mentioned. I tried it before and it's not that bad....but I still rather have a 5spd....doing 120 in fourth gear is no fun.
