I was planning on buying a MR catch can, but is it really nessicary? I had a catch can on my 1st gen Tsi. But, before i got the can i just ran a line down to my frame rail and p-clamped it there so it would drip out. Does it really make a difference if there is vacuum or a catch can on the breather or not? Besides tracks not wanting you to run like that... :blah:
-I searched, found nothing really usefull. If i missed a thread i appologize. Point me in the right direction if there is already.

on mine I have a breather on one side and the other goes to the valve cover obviously... If u don't want oil residue getting in your intake I'd say yea its worth it..

What's worth it? Running a straight line to the rail, or using a can? :ugh:
I know the breather causes oil in the intake, that wasn't the question here...

A catch can is a catch can. Either a nice greddy one or a cheap ebay one. you can ebay some for extremely cheap.
You can't put breathers or have it dripping down on the track. and my preference would be not to put those breather filters on the T because it happens to sit right above the manifold

It is a simple fucking question and its not his fault you can't read fucking english.
The bastard just wants to know if there is any benefit to using an actual catch can, versus running a drain line to the bottom of the car, which will drip underneath the car and onto the road.
Personally I would run a catch can for two reasons.
1. You'll have a vaccume pulling the excess.
2. You won't get kicked off of race tracks for being an idiot.

Hahahaha, +1 rep
Thanks. It does make sense to have a can I guess, even though I wont be tracking it much. They're not that expensive, so i guess i'll stop being a cheap-ass. Those of you that can read, thanks.

In all reality though, not the end of the world if you don't use an actual catch can. People use 7up bottles and beer bottles all the time...no biggie. Personally, i'd splurge for the 20 or 30 dollar ebay generics... to each his own.

lots of people run no vaccum to the crankcase/valve cover (just a filter to atmosphere)
although you are 'supposed' to put vaccum to them. this is so that the dirty gases floating around will get sucked out and keep your oil and internals cleaner. but shit, as long as you change your oil regularly, who cares.
but in your case, i wouldnt want to have a line just dropping oil onto the ground, i would surely rig up a catch can. gives you the vaccum your supposed to have, as well as no oil drips under the car.
but then again, if your running a boosted motor, it is good to have an egr type valve in the breather line so that you can only draw gases out and not boost the internals.
