Firefox Download Day(June 17, 2008)

So the good folks at Firefox are trying to set a world record for most downloads in 24hrs for the release of Firefox 3. Since I've been using this browser since v.0.1 and it hasn't let me down, I'll support this. :)

yeah I've used the beta for a little while too. It's okay... But they still haven't addressed the rampant memory usage/leak.

I'll use the same browser session for 2-5 days at work depending on what I'm working on. It's not uncommon for Firefox to end up using 400-500mb of RAM.. Yeah I've messed with all the about:config and cache settings. Whatever I guess it's better than IE...

Yeah I notice that too. It doesn't like to dump the resources even after the tab is closed. I usually just close Firefox completely and restart it.

How do you lose your bookmarks?

If my comp or firefox shuts down wrong it dumps my bookmarks, some times it loses my theme as well. I think it is some error with the way it handles profiles.

You select your version with the GET variables. So, for other OS's:

* Linux: change os=win to os=linux
* Mac: change os=win to os=osx

For other languages, you can substitute the language variable such as en-GB for British English, de for German and fr for French. Not all of them are up right now, but they will be soon.

for those of you that went back to firefox 2 because they didnt like the auto complete in the address bar because you go to many porn sites here is your solution

type in about:config

filter down to the following deal (aka look for this)

browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped

double click on it and it will change its value from false to true

exit and you have success

Man, I don't know if they had this extension for Firefox 2, but you have to try it if you haven't yet: Better Gmail 2. It will kill you in the face. Once you activate it, in Tools, select the "Redesigned" skin. It will take effect when you refresh the firefox window you have Gmail open in, just F5 once you install and apply it.

CKAMC, what I find annoying is that even when the history is clear your bookmarks are in there and it throws me off. If I want to see my bookmarks I'll just go to the bookmarks in the file menu...seems repetitive to me.

PHLIP, something I just did was set all mailto email links to automatically redirect to gmail.
