Well after fucking up my first paintjob i learned a lot and decided its time for a restart

Here it is after the first paint job, it looks much worse in person:

After sanding all the black off with 80grit

Then some precleaning

Masking it off outside is a real pain in the ass :rant2:

After that the primer starts flying

Throw all the trim back on for now and their you have it, a non spray-painted primered s13. Now i just got to decide wether to leave it like this or do some two tone :)

Thats exactly what my first coupe looked like when I bought it. I actually drove it like that for a bit :barf: lol

Good luck on the new paint, +1 for DIY

be careful using newspaper if you are going to spray the car using a gun. the air pressure from the gun will cause little fibers to detach and land on your paint giving you little flaws all over.

painters paper is fairly cheap and reduces the chance of having imperfections due to masking.

also dont forget to wipe the car down with a tack rag before you spray.

good luck!

Prep work is key. How much did you get that compressor for?

Car looks good. Now paint it! don't leave it primer or primer color lol

Painting under a tree is a very bad idea as well. You can make your own temporary paint booth out of the garage or a ez-up or something using plastic sheet available at any home improvement place. You will come out with much cleaner results like that. Outside you will always end up with little bits of random crap in the paint. Actually now that I think of it you can make a temporary paint booth using the tree and some plastic sheet, you just have to use a bit of ingenuity.

*werd, drop cloth/ez-up ftw.

What exactly are you doing different this time to avoid your previous failure?

Well previous fail= i didnt prime it, I 80 grit sanded it then wiped it off with thinner and went crazy:bite: And i didnt bother filling dents the first time too. And i used enamel when i should have used urethane. And i was probably drunk:rawk:

You previously fucked up on the job and tried to do it right this time. Yet you decided to not take the time to drive up the street to paint it in the correct environment? :squint:

oh man ur gonna have alot of shit in ur paint if this is the way ur gonna paint ur car. Why didnt u da it with 320 or at least 180 afterwards stripping the paint and crap off? idk but primer over 80 is not a good idea... its gonna show up in tiny swirls all over the place when u paint it. YOu better use some thick ass primer surfacers with multiple coats to hide them. Oh yeah... wear a mask dude. ONly like 20 dollars cheapest. Even if ur outside ur still gonna breath it... better yet wear shirt also man. I really hope no epa or city inspector happens to cross you one day and fine u for painting out in the open end in a nice looking neighborhood(looks like to me).

I did go through multiple grits and got all the swirl marks out, i just didnt type that in. (it was smooth as glass before i sprayed it)

I dont think the EPA exists in alabama and my neighbors dont care as long as there are no more parties over here. i had a mask on for a while but it got hot and i dont care much about my health

care about you're kidneys. you'll miss them when you piss yourself later.

if you're going to make a mock paint booth, make sure you do it on a paved surface next time, and wet the ground.. this keeps dust down.

Canopy, paved surface, wet ground, spray, done.

I found it funny that you sprayed it right underneath a tree...

Shit is bound to fall off while you're spraying.

idk no one has ever made an actual thread on how to paint or prep a car theres just too much to right and too much work. ITs a very broad subject and process.

Me too, I have a similiar compressor and most HVLP guns require alot more CFM than the compressor can produce. which gun are you using?

Compressor kept up fine (you only spray at 20-40 psi) so it worked out well
