hey guys I installed a fresh sr motor. went to start it and the valve train was very loud so i shut off imediatly. hooked up an oil pressure gauge and unplugged the cas/fuel pump fuse. im getting 0 oil pressure when i crank for a good 15 seconds. I also tryed all the tricks for priming; crank dozens of times for 15-20 sec, put oil in oil filter, poured oil down turbo return hose. still getting 0 oil pressure.

now heres the funny thing..I pulled out all 4 spark plugs and tryed cranking it again with cas/injectors unplugged obviously,, and the oil pressure gauge is shooting up to around 30psi. so Install back the spark plugs and again 0 oil pressure.

next im gonna remove oil pan and hammer it out a bit, even tho it doesnt look dented.

ps.. I did a compression test and its 170psi give or take on all 4 cylinders.

Has anyone experienced something similar??? any suggestions???

just to clarify this motor is not a rebuild. bought it from a well known engine supplier here.

Hey bud! it just took me along time to get oil pressure in my sr20 thats been sitting for a while also!
1-drain about a quart of clean oil out of your motor.
2-disconnect you oil drain line.
3- get a 5/8 hose from home depot or something thats like 2/3 feet long and connect it to the oil drain fitting on the block and in the eingine bay put a funnel on it.
4-have a buddy or your mom to crank your motor with the plugs out while you pour oil down the drain tube.

This just recently worked for me when i couldnt get my sr20 to get oil pressure from a whole day of trying!
good luck

ok im gonna try it. I wasnt sure if I was suppose to pour it while cranking...maybe thats why it didnt work. I just poured some in the return and connected it back to the turbo then cranked.
