first i have to say HAHAHAHAAAAAA HA.... sorry

ok what i did was use a 2ft extention with a swival socket and a ratchet. go between the 2 and 3 runners.

now to put it back on i have to use a 3ft mechanical finger and slowly line it up.

oh i also had to unbolt the fuel lines bracket thing from the mani

sorry dude, its the hardest thing on the car to do.

Oh yea, this is also when i beat the fuck outta my garage fridge with a maglite after about a hour of fucking with it...

My friend and I did mine in less then 5 minutes. Its not that hard. We used a regular ratchet with a super beast extension.. Use a light to see what your doing on the other side of the runners.

It took me and a friend 15 minutes to get it out, about an hour and a half to put the new one in.

We used a coat hanger and electrical tape.. A good tool is one of those 2 feet long magnetic grabbers.. a lifesaver!

This helped me out a bunch

i replaced mine in a matter of minutes, although upon reinstallation, i ziptied a coat hanger on the sensor. when it was bolted in and tried sliding out the hangar, it got hooked on the harness and pulled the signal wire out of the pin. haha, so careful with that also.

Wobble sockets work wonders and try putting a little vasline or grease in the socket to hold the bolt so you can start it !! Just try and be paitent !!

I have been able to swap knock sensors on teh KA24DE in as lil as 15 minutes (yes thats uninstaling and reinstalling).

Heres what I do get yourself some tools duh:

3/8" Rachet
3/8" 18" extension (maybe 12" will do)
3/8" universal joint/swivel

Unlossen and move the fuelline support brackets between runners 2-3 because they will be in teh way.

Remove knock sensor

NOW:

Fashion you a hanger to craddle the knock sensor with sub harness connected already and run this threw the intake manifold from the front side of the engine.

Now get your extensions with wobble and put some tap around the head of the 12mm bolt so that it fits firmly without falling out of the wobble. Now move the hanger around until everything is lined up and tighten down to 14ft/lbs, your done.

BTW I had to twist braid the hanger to make it stiffer so that it didn't limp while trying to feed it threw the inatke manifold.

Couldn't you just have someone stand ready with the ratchet and then go under the car and work your arm up underneath. Then just simply hold the knock sensor w/bolt in place while the other person proceeds to tighten the bolt on?

This seems like the easiest way....if you have help of course. Oh and really small hands :)

I also go in from underneath. Of course I remove and throw away those two huge manifold support brackets too, giving plenty of access.

Ever notice any side effects from taking them off? Cracking mani, warped flanges, etc?

None. I can't even count the number of engines I've removed them from. Just like those two huge gussets under the block going to the bellhousing, useless. Throw it all in the metal pile.

Huh. Good to know. I hate those metal gussets anyways.

Alright well I'm doing a clutch on my car this past weekend and I'm thinking to myself, "hey why not install that knock sensor I've had for a while?" I know I'll try getting to it from underneath!

Well I got it out without a lot of trouble. Now getting the new one in.....? IMPOSSIBLE!!! I've removed the larger of the two mani support brackets, and my tranny is out and starter is disconnected. I've got days of room getting to the bolt hole. It's lining the bolt up and starting it to thread that's the impossible part.

I'm thinking I need to remove the oil filter and mounting bracket to get clearance to get my hand in there. Any suggestions? If I take the oil filter bracket off, is there a special gasket I need to replace or can I just use RTV to reseal it?

I'm contemplating just removing the upper manifold cause I need to replace the PCV for smog anyways. Oh it's a 95 KA BTW.

Thanks guys.

make sure to torque down to 15-20 FT/LB torque, and do not do with an inpact....u will destroy the sensor! Hand tighten then torque. :)

Cool thx guys for the help. I've decided to jsut wait until I get the mani gaskets in from order, and just pull the upper mani. I'm going to change out the knock sensor, PCV, AIV clean & new gasket, soak upper mani in solvent to clean out all carbon, replace all the fuel runner rubber hose(always petrified by this time on 240s). And reinstall.

I've done all this work before on my past 240s so it's not a big deal. I was just trying to cut corners and replace the knock and clear the code without having to do all the extra work. s'all good.

On a side note: I got my clutch finished last night.....ah I forgot how rev happy aluminum flywheels are! I love my Fidanza. :)

thanks guys for all the help.
