View Full Version : The best way to lower your seat

I decided to cut the hump out of my floor, and used fixed brackets, while making my own mounts. Sits the seat lowest possible. The seat is a momo supercup fia approved and the side mounts are aluminum momo. Here is what ive done so far.

more updates to come

i thought that hump was for the transmission tunnel? you should've tried to do that with the transmission on the car pherhaps?

He's off to the side of the transmission tunnel. The seat doesn't bolt over the transmission tunnel at all - that hump down the center of the car is more for the driveshaft by the time you around the seat.

It's cool, but is it really necessary? I'm 5'11" , and I have a Bride Zeta II with FG rails, and I can hardly see over the dash..

whats with the big hole for the shifter?

run low max seats with fg. and if you need to go lower take out seat cushions haha

that hump is for the cat so you don't burn your carpet...i think

The area that he cut out is for the factory exhaust.

Im pretty sure he cut the shifter because he had a Nissan V6 motor in there

The hump is for rigidity. The heat shields protect the interior/carpet.

He doesn't need it because he's caged.

The bigger shifter hole is no doubt for an engine swap.

I've found that my Momo seat on Wedge Engineering brackets is perfect (I'm 6'3", can get a helmet on and still fit under the sunroof), but if I had a cage that limited my head space I'd probably need to go lower.

Lets see those finished pics! :)

lol, im 5'6" . I tried the bride brackets but they interfered with my roll bar, so i decided to make my own, much cheaper to say the least.

Heres todays progress, ill be done with both by saturday i hope

Pretty interesting.
I was also considering doing this too.
It actually doesn't seem to be that much of a pain to do.

...and GS you have that Nissan V8 in there right :)

seems like your making it the same height as before...?

why couldnt you just weld the sliders to the frame? :D perm super low status!

No. The hump is to clear the catalytic converter, or the resonator on an S14, since it's a larger diameter than any other part of the forward section of exhaust. Has nothing to with rigidity, structure, heat shielding, or any other nonsense some of you guys are throwing out. If you have a downpipe without any sort of flex or resonator you can cut the entire section out since it's not needed.

It's like no one has ever been under their car before.

used to have a vh45de in there, then sold it for an offer to high to refuse if i recall correctly. that shit sure as hell sounded badass.

Yea I had the vh45, thats why the shifter hole is bigger. Dont have it anymore, someone bought the whole setup from me. Im currently building a 2.2l sr.

its lower than stock but more importantly it clears the door bar, and the seat is centered behind the steering wheel.

do you plan on weling a nut to the bottom or using the sandwhich method?

I was thinknig of just running a nut and bolt with locktite, but i might weld a nut for ease.

I dont need it to slide, im the only one who drives lol. For real though i wanted to do sliders, it was just easier this way

Correct

95 percent done with drivers side

pics

Helmet clears sunroof with room to spare, clears door bar barely, and is perfectly centered behind the steering wheel.

90.00

Looks good, but I think Bride FG rails will drop a seat lower than that. They're pricey for sure though.

I'm 6' 3" and I'm just barely looking over the dash with probably 6+" of headroom on my S13 with Bride FG rails. I've never been this low in any vehicle, so it's fun for the novelty alone.

bad ass idea dude. I would have never thought of it. AS soon as i find another 240, and after i get a 350 into it, im gonna do that. Even with stock seats i was kinda hitting the roof...

Lol I thought you guys meant the "hump" that goes 'transverse' from left side chassis tub to tranny tunnel. Whoops. Good to know Russ is always around to make me look n00b.

total cost not including seat
90.00

And that's more then Wedge Engineering brackets cost. I'm all for doing it yourself and all, but I can think of a better way to spend a weekend working on the car.

And you're only 5'6"? I'd think you'd want some sliders in there too, I mean shit, you might as well with all that clearance.

HS13KLS

kinda off topic...but since you have all that shit out..you should run that silicone foam shit in there. to stiffen up the chassis.
but this is one sweet ride man!

GSXRJJordan

kinda off topic...

Yes it is.

you should run that silicone foam shit in there. to add useless weight to the chassis.

Fixed it for ya. The chassis is caged and seam welded. Don't need any dead weight foam.

I could have set the seat on the floor but the door bar interfered with the seat. I'm short so this is probably way overkill for me but it was a good idea.

yeah the only way you'll go lower than FG rail is to cut those box steel bits out and flat mount it to the floor.

I did all the get rid of the cathump stuff and run without the asspad in the seat. I can't see the ground 10ft of the front of my car I love it.

Unibody stiffness still contributes a great deal to overall chassis stiffness with a cage. I would definitely not call structural foam "useless," especially given that a whole car's worth of foam would likely weigh less than a few feet of tubing and add much more stiffness since it's adding strength to all the weak joints.

Got the seat in finnally where it is supposed to be. VEry comfortable for me at its lowest position it is 2 inches off the floor (with the hump removed) . Got to start on the passengerside next. Very happy with the way it came out.

I think he means dimple dies, lol. Your 5'6" you said right? Why'd you need to lower the seat rails? Such an awesome fabricator man, I love your work haha. Off topic but how did the overfenders come out?
