First and foremost I have to give thanks to my mechanic and friend Juan Castaneda. He has helped me with every mod on this car. The car wouldnt be where its at without him. The hardest working mexican i know! :D

Onto the build, in summer 2006 I sold my first car and found this gem on CL.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/bboyoracle/RPS13%20Build/CLad.jpg

Such a breath of fresh air. Finally a clean stock 240! No welded diff, full interior and one color! Strong motor too.....or so i thought. A month or so after purchasing the KA went bye bye :0wned:

FRONT CLIP TIME!

Out with the KA!
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/bboyoracle/RPS13%20Build/IMG_2088.jpg

In with the S13 Redtop. All work done by VIPGarage with the help of Soap(currently in the marines.....miss you man!) their awesome mechanic! If it wasnt for him none of this would have gotten done.

Now that my car had been running perfectly. I had to get rid of the seats. I guess i was spoiled from my gs-r leather. Here they are in all their stained and smelly glory.

To this....Bride Zeta III Gradiation and Bride XAXII

Next up....The evil curse of all fastbacks with spoilers. CANCER!

That was fixed by taking a trip to richmond to purchase a CF hatch someone was selling.:

I cant believe i had this in my car. Introducing my steering wheel with special features such as old man steering wheel leather wrap and mysterious sticky substance in the middle horn:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/bboyoracle/RPS13%20Build/IMG_2458.jpg

A quick purchase from Logan @ Aspec and Jdm Theory and i ended up with this setup. KEY!S steering wheel and Works Bell hub and quick release:

Enter SUMMER 2007. I ordered a shitload of parts all recieved and ready to be installed. Countless hours were spent staring into nothing trying to figure out why the hell cant we put this in. Damn japanese directions mean nothing! And their drawings didnt help!

Suspension(kei office xt, cusco front and rear sway bars) and brake(Q45 calipers and cross drilled rotors with HKS teflon brake lines):

The Garage aftermath, still looks like that:o :

FALL 2007

Got tired of the nasty door panels:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/bboyoracle/RPS13%20Build/DSCF0004.jpg
Bought some Bride fabric from Nukabe Automotive to upholster door panels and other misc interior parts:

I spent all of fall/winter/spring saving for aero and wheels. I was thinking of Vertex, Msport, Dmax, Ings but all of a sudden i was introduced to VIP styled cars. I guess to me it was more appealing because I wasnt looking to track my car. And the styling was so simple but clean. Sure i could buy a high priced aero kit that has been copied by every ebay company alive. But why be like everyone else when i can be different? So i decided on the following.

http://www.onetongarage.com/images/vp_sig.jpg

Thanks to Van Phan of www.OneTonGarage.com I recieved my Supermade 180sx Body kit along with Headlight Covers and 326Power roof spoiler and Supermade rear spoiler(not pictured). Not only did he supply the parts, he kept me updated from the time they left Japan to my door. As well as provide me with a lot of knowledge on modifying the car. Another person I have to give credit to on this build. Here's a picture of his gorgeous Q45 on Leon Hardiritt Ordens:

Early May:

Here is the box in my garage:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/bboyoracle/sm%20kit/IMG_3340.jpg

Lets take a look inside....

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/bboyoracle/sm%20kit/IMG_3341.jpg

LAZY MOCK UP TIME!

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/bboyoracle/sm%20kit/IMG_3346.jpg

Early June

The car has been at the body shop since Mid-May. Since then it has had its interior gutted, windows removed(which revealed front window rust which will be fixed), (PDR)Paintless Dent Removal throughout the car, rear window washer shaved and fenders rolled. The bulk of the work are the quarter panels which were in really bad shape. After lots of PDR, metal massaging the body guy is finishing up on them. Then the doors and front fenders come next. I wish I had some before pictures, but the work they have done so far is amazing.

Car should be primered by the end of the week and paint process beginning next week. Enough talk onto the pictures:

Where I'm at right now......

Obviously waiting for the body work and paint to be done and wheels to come in. Should arrive within the next two weeks. What wheels you ask?

Thanks to my sponsor, Work Wheels USA, I will be running Work Varianza D3S.

Nope not yet, was waiting until i saw some real progress in the build before posting. Didn't want one of those build-up threads that last two years.

Work Wheels USA was very supportive in my build and what I was trying to do with the car. As a first time builder i really have to take my hats off to them.

Thanks for the compliment. Carbon Doors are for sale. Felt like it would break up the car too much, so my metal doors are back on and hatch is being painted. Sale thread:

This is one of those cases, where I don't understand how the fuck you guys get all this money to build your car, at that rate of speed. I'm fucking working 120 hour weeks, just to buy parts, and i'm barely making enough to pay it back. Doesn't really seem like you NEED Work to sponsor you. I mean goddamn the shit you already have...Call me a hater, I just don't get it. Someone fill me in on the secret, of speed modifying. Good news is, I just got a second job. So, my hours should be doubled what i'm making right now. Hopefully, I can complete my car, before, I die of exhaustion.

Selling my last car definitely did help. But I just kept my mind set on saving for this build. So there were a lot of times I stayed home rather then go out, eating pb and j sandwiches doing whatever I can to save money.

I wish my job payed well but it really doesn't. So patience and saving is the name of the game, and goddamn i don't have patience :bash:

wow i just discovered this build. i personally like everything you've done and i like how you are saving your money.

if you get sick of pb and j, you can get a bag of jasmine rice for close to nothing, and some black beans. healthy and cheap lol, tha'ts what i've been on, it's sad how i care more about my car than eating.

but yeah dudes save your money..i work two jobs, i don't have any days off, i don't go out, but DO have a GF, it was either go out to dinner one night, or greddy oil filter relo...damn winey gfs.

I approached them as you would any company. I put together a proposal and hoped for the best :x:

They were very interested in my build, and i'm very grateful for that. I wasn't looking to build a magazine show stopper, just a car that I personally like. So for Work to join in on my build is a great compliment. I guess I was doing something right?

I'm looking forward to representing them, its the least I can do. I'm just an individual builder, no shop put this together. For them to lend a helping hand is an awesome gesture. Thanks a lot Jim @ Work! :rawk:

Also a big thanks to Van @ OneTonGarage.com for sourcing the aero. Its hard to come by, but he made it possible.

haha thats fine. Yeah I'll be running stock metal fenders. Any suggestions with fitment, camber etc. I'd appreciate it :)

Run small tires. lol I would run a 215/40 up front and a 225/40 or 235/40 out back. I've had 225/40 and 225/35 on the front, and 235/40 and 225/40 out back. Current setup is 225/35 and 225/40, but next front size will be 215/40. The 35 is pretty damn short. A lot of this depends on whether or not you'll actually drive the car much. 225/35, or even a 215/35 is hot as shit, but you will be SLAMMED. If you run a small enough tire up front you should be able to get away with a good roll, and around 3-4* of camber. I'm running 3ish right now, and my fenders are SLIGHTLY pulled, but I recommend not pulling, just rolling the fronts. The rears will have to be pulled a little, unless you run more than 4* of camber. My rears are sitting at around 3.75* I think.

Overkill in that I don't need to run overfenders with the wheel size. They can fit fit under stock fenders with a minor roll and pull. And as i mentioned before:

stock metal > fiberglass overfenders

once you do it crappy if you try and fix it it'll just get super wavey and even more gross looking.

I see what you are talking about flybert and mcrusselpants. The other side is a lot better. I stopped by the body shop and let him know that id like more of a progression from the body line to the end of the fender. Right now its more of a lip and not really going to help with fitment. So more metal pounding!

bboyoracle

Oh btw the fender roller was only really used to flatten the inner lip most of it was done by massaging the metal. In other words beating the shit out of it with a hammer and different curved blocks.

for the most part i'm no body tech but with what you did with the fender rollers the only way to get a pull like the one I posted is to weld new ends back there and do the good ole baseball bat method which is overkill, or you could get those corny screw on fender flares LOL.

but they're right over fenders would be the true way to correct that. I'm happy with my wheel fittament and rear fenders so rear overs would be overkill for me since i'm not running wide ass wheels or grip driving or drifting.

it's your car and as long as your wheels dont rub then who cares I guess. To each his own, everyone just is judgemental towards build threads telling people how their cars are to look since they're vicariously building a car through your dreams lol.

It's more like, if you're going with a Super Made build, then you pretty much just told everyone you're looking to go and build a super clean looking car, which means no gay, non-functional fender pulls that absolutely destroys the lines of the car, AND doesn't allow for proper wheel fitment still.

It's not so much people trying to build his car vicariously through him, but it's people trying to help him make the car look clean, and not half-assed.

bboyoracle
07-21-2008, 05:08 PM
The only reason i rolled the rears was to ensure proper fitment. Not so it looks "pretty" Which is why i am fixing the situation as we speak. So its all good guys. Thanks for the help.

drift into a curb
07-21-2008, 05:13 PM
It wouldn't matter if he used the fender roller. It should be if he test fitted his wheels at all while pulling it. Only way to make it look good is trial and error and fitting the wheels while you're doing it or else you over do it and it looks like poop. And if you under do it, well it's not gonna fit.

Om1kron
07-21-2008, 05:21 PM

You can always cut and weld new metal over. Sometimes that looks the best.

bboyoracle
07-21-2008, 05:42 PM
lol a piece a metal was already cut and welded on that quarter panel. That side particularly was in real bad shape. Which has made the process harder. (must have been a bad weld bc the part that was cut is starting to seperate due to the roll)

Actually here you can see how bad that section used to be. Before:

Car looks cool.

Just the ride height I know that you have to adjust, but in the pic looks like its trying to take a shit.

I like it.

But yeah do your alignment and drop that shit.

Awesome job.

something is missing for sure.

I think you need aero mirrors and aero hood.

I was thinking Dmax but the vents are a bit to aggressive for me. I do like the origin type II hood with the rear vent only.....I dont know we'll see. I've spent too much money at this point :(

Its wierd it does look like its just stock and doesnt really have aero on it. I think it would look better with the head light covers black but thats just me, and i also agree with brian you need some aero mirrors and a hood and it would look trick for sure. But good job on the build, its a really clean looking car

bboyoracle

It just looks stock.

Like it doesn't even have aero on.

Well thats the look I went for lol I didn't want the aero just to be another part on the car. I wanted it to be a part of it. Let me explain....

Far too many people slap on aero, paint it and move on. But when an aero kit is put on you have to consider a number of things. I chose to focus on body lines and fitment.

The supermade kit is definitely a great looking kit. But my main concern about it was the sideskirts. They start above the body line rather then below. So you have a real break in the cars look right at the door. Here is a picture to show you:

http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=138800

In order to remedy this I bought some GP Sports Door caps. I dont know if you have ever seen GP sports sideskirts but they are HELLA chunky compared to the thin supermade sideskirt. I literally had to cut it in half to have it sit flush against the SM skirt.

But as you can see the Door cap covers up the top bodyline and continues the top bodyline all around the car. Besides door caps are used a lot with VIP aero so I thought it would work out good with the SM kit.

Another project was the headlights. A lot of people either decide to slap the cover on top of the headlight or mold it as one piece. Personally I didnt like how it looked with the headlight cover on. The cover was flush with the fender and hood but the bucket itself was sunken in.

So I recessed the headlight cover into the bucket. So when the cover was on it made the headlight flush with the fender and hood.

Its now one piece but I cut a groove to keep that two piece look :)

Also the headlight didnt fit that well with the bumper. I had a huge gap between the top of the bumper(where the vent is) and the bottom of the bucket. I had to add a piece to the bucket to close up the gap. It now wraps around the hood.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/bboyoracle/Car%20painted/IMG_3935.jpg

These two things, though small, I think really made a big difference on how the car looks. Perhaps thats why the aero might seem stock. Because everything was made to look like its supposed to be on the car.

Is that the stock burgandy color?

Yeah btw i'm loving your bumps for ED lol

subtly vented hood. perhaps cf.... but then you said you didn't wanna copy the original TOO much

cf craftsquare mirrors... or maybe even oem black ones with the origin glass

removing the roof wing might match the car's sleek and round look better, especially with your chosen spoiler

i agree on black headlight buckets. leave the tops maroon if you like

i think smoked jdm sidemarkers would look a lot better than lame usdm amber ones

and i'm actually surprised and even a little bit offended that after allll that bodywork, you left the rear sidemarkers... why?

i'm just nitpicking, but i agree with the consenus. i looked at it and it just looked.... wierd.

I agree with some of the other post. The car looks good it just needs some color contrast. Its just a tab bit too burgandy. A carbon hood and even hatch, with some aero mirrors will really set the car off in my opinion.

a factory color and OEM-quality body work IS NOT SUFFICIENT ON ZILVIA! DIDN'T YOU KNOW?

go out to your garage and start randomly beating on it with a hammer, and zip tie the bumpers on
cover it in retarded stickers that mean nothing
drop it down so the frame is sitting on the ground and you can't drive it

then it'll be cool

oh, and buy a bunch of allover print t shirts and flat billed hats at like three times retail price. then you'll be cool too

I actually thought the same thing. The squarish round body and the headlights are very similar...

But honestly, IMO, its one of the cleanest s13's on this site. I mean, no super agressive aero, its a good right height (for me) and the wheels, IMO again, match perfect.

Super clean. As someone already mentioned, its one of the cleanest S13s posted on this forum. Makes me wish I had a S13 to build-up. :/

question...why did you decide not to paint the roof and side mirrors black?

bboyoracle
10-30-2008, 06:55 AM
As I mentioned before I didn't want to build a carbon copy of the SM company cars.

As far as me staying with an OEM color I did it for a couple reasons. The main one being practacality. It's easier to match a OEM color to the car then lets say a custom color or candy.

The other reason is I wouldn't do a full color change unless it was a complete one. (including interior and engine bay) One of my biggest pet peaves is seeing a black car and opening up the hood to see a white engine bay. I actually saw a blue integra once with a white engine bay and orange firewall lol Some might say "well you can spray the engine bay flat black" Ehh not a fan of that either.

Om1kron
10-30-2008, 09:09 AM
I like the car a lot, but yes the headlight buckets are bothering me, especially since it looks like the inner part that houses the lights are the original paint color mixed with your dark red exterior paint.

The stock hood needs to be replaced in the future, but all in all I would rock that as a daily driver, it looks super clean and not overly aggressive.

It's interesting you paid such close attention to that detail but you painted the roof and a-pillars the same color as the car. Where the quarter window meets up with the roof totally throws the roof line off when it's painted to patch the car vs black.
