So I was going down 85 southbound here in Greenville, about to merge on to 385 to go to graduation practice, in the right hand lane when the guy in front of me got really badly cut off by another car and had to brake hard. Well I immediately braked and tried to swerve off the road, but my brakes locked up and the rear end just king of did a little fishtail and I slammed into the guy in front of me. His car of course had absolutely no damage whatsoever. I'm talking not even a nick or scratch. And of course my baby got f'ed the heck up. At first I thought there was no damage to my SR, it wasn't leaking radiator looked fine. However when my dad was driving it home (I had to go to graduation practice or I wouldn't be able to walk tomorrow) he said he couldn't get it fast enough to get out of first and black smoke was coming out the exhaust. Oh and of course I got a ticket because it's technically my fault. Cops were real nice though and said they would have done something to the guy who cut us off if they could find him but no chance of that. Made the ticket only $75. So all in all I would really appreciate your guy's prayers as I really don't have the money to pay for increased insurance as I believe the car will be declared totaled and I will get very little for it, that's my fear right now. Anyways body damage is: front bumper smashed, radiator support bent, right hand fender bent, and hopefully that's it. So far I've no idea what's wrong with my engine. Again guys I'd appreciate your prayers right now: PICS

That's totally fixable.

Lol I wish. Could be possible but I doubt it I just need to see what insurance will give me for it first.

Yeah hopefully that's it, I'm more concerned about the motor than anything else. I'd prefer not to have to pull it but If I do I do.

yeah that suck, as far as the black smoke goes, More than likely a vacuume leak check inntercooler and piping for cracks/leaks

Yeah I was doing 55 in a 60 lol. The guy I hit was a good sport about it prolly because he'll get a little bit of money from insurance and there's nothing wrong with his car, but anyways when we were waiting for the cops he was checking out my engine and asking about what I had done to it lol.

Black smoke = most likely fuel. Maybe something was jarred loose, I would just systematically walk through the engine bay and make sure everything is tight.

I got $2500 total for my car when I got in a accident. I got broad sided by a Honda Odessy on the hwy. Pass fender was jacked and scraped the entire side of the car and put a dent in the door. Paid $200 to insurance to get it back. They totaled my car but it was still road worthy. I faxed all the reciepts (motor, coils, FMIC, everything adds value to the car) I had to the agent who took care of everything. I'm pretty sure they are going to total your car. My car is an 89' and even with 180K on the odo it was still worth $1400 and I got the extra $1100 because of my reciepts. Don't know how high your deduct is. They will take that too.
Insurance told me to drop my coverage to liability only. Fix the car, keep the reciepts. When the car is back to normal go get it appraised and then show that # to your local insurance agent. That way, god forbid you get in another accident, you'll get some money back a 2nd time.
GL bro. I'm sure everything will work out. YOU'RE ALIVE. That's all that really matters.

Just have the core support pulled, it's not damaged that bad. Use this as an excuse to go with the silvia front. It is good that nobody was hurt and the car is fixable. Sorry to hear, but it'll be alright in the end.

sorry to hear.. this actually happened to me last week, but the guy hit me instead, and all i ended up with was a scuff

06-04-2008, 11:19 AM
Its blowing black smoke because there is a leak in the intercooler most likely, therefore the car runs pig rich now.... Its no big dead, your engine doesn't looked touched.... If might be a good idea to ask your insurance company about your potential hike from there, it might be a big deal if you have all state or something... Better to just ask
SleepR 240sx
06-04-2008, 11:32 AM
So he's putting all the numbers into the computer now...of course it was totaled. So more than likely what i'm looking at is buying it back and buying a new 240 shell (this car has a lot of unrelated problems) and swapping all my stuff over and getting to keep the extra money. So it looks like I might come out of this pretty good.

sucks to hear man, I'm curious what would you get a ticket for? In my city we don't get tickets for hitting someone unless it is really bad, then we get a reckless driving ticket
SleepR 240sx
06-04-2008, 12:35 PM
By South Carolina law pretty much if you rear end someone except under VERY extreme circumstances you will get a ticket for "driving too fast for conditions." I'm more worried about the points than I am my car.
silviaguy240
06-04-2008, 12:38 PM
any rear end accident in america warrants a ticket, but depending on the severity the cost is different. its only likely 2 points at most. may get away with one.

Traffic school can whisk one point away.

sucks man, really sorry. glad your ok though, could have been alot worse. GL with the repair!
SleepR 240sx
06-04-2008, 12:52 PM
It was a 2 point ticket. It looks like i'm going to get around 1600 total for the car. I showed him all my receipts but he said the way the company works is that if he factors all that in, whatever I get for it would simple raise the buy back value by the same amount. So ultimately he ran my car as a regular old 91 240sx, in better condition than the car truly is. I think this is prolly the best I'm going to get however I'm going to review the offer and then decide.
Oh and Just talked to a friend and he said he has a really clean hatch he would sell me for $600 so I'm considering just swapping my motor/other stuff in it and keeping the rest of the money.

06-04-2008, 08:18 PM
your car is almost a mirror image of what mine looked like after a drunk driver pulled out in front of me, it sucks i know:wtc:. you'll probily have to find a salvage yard and cut/reweld a new radiator support in then pound the rest. then like bobafreak said new hood, bumper, and fenders. but also once you get inside you'll see that you need new head light buckets and covers, and those support brackets that go from the bottom of the front frame to the radiator support. suck i know, but still very fixable. oh, and i wouldn't wait for the insurance company to give you a offer, it's a S13 they'll probily only offer $2500-3000 on the high end of things. best of luck

Ok so here's the deal with what's going on right now. I'm looking at getting around $1200 total for the car. So instead of going through the hassle of swapping everything else over to a new shell (would be fun though) I'm going to get the radiator support fixed by a shop, and then plop on a silvia front end. That's about 95% sure right now. Also, I replaced a broken coupler today thinking that was all the damage, took it out for a ride and it was stalling out on me everywhere. Got it back took off the intercooler and found this a pretty good sized gash. Not even a five month old intercooler RIP. Here's some pics I took today:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a305/RPS1392/S13/2008%20180SX%20Work/support.jpg
in not bolt on damage. And thats very fixable. The rest is remove old stuff, bolt new on. It's simple.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a305/RPS1392/S13%20Convertible/DSC02411.jpg
It's seriously not half as bad as you think. Chances are your old core support had some rust on it anyway. Great time to change it. If you dont want to mess with it, I'd love to take the shell off your hands. As you can see....I do this kind of stuff a lot.

Alright so I made a fair amount of progress today, welded my intercooler's gash which was the cause of the vacuum leak. Also worked a little on my front bumper and it looks pretty good now. More than likely going back to the stock look for now due to money constraints.

yeah that suck, as far as the black smoke goes, More than likely a vacuume leak check inntercooler and piping for cracks/leaks
that was what i was thinking. if the radiator isnt even leaking then damage didnt even reach to your engine for sure. either IC piping or the IC itself is leaking badly. but just incase i'd get a leakdown test on the SR (if it was relatively a hard hit)

i work for a grocery store 500 bucks a monthI work in fast food, and don't make too much more than that either. And I didn't have to buy all that much for the repair either. Pretty much most 240 owners here in SC know each other and lend helping hands to each other. I got the fender for free, and the hood and light for very cheap. Didn't need a new radiator support, just had to pull it out and make sure everything was aligned to spec.
