Hey guys,
I haven't been on here in a while because I just moved. Now I have a Eagle Talon Tsi. I got it from a police auction for $300. The ecu is fried in it so I'm waiting for a new one. Anyway I miss the 240sx. My 240sx it toast the tranny is slipping and the car burns quicker than ppl drink water. I'm not lying!!! I want to get rid of it. But I want another one for a daily driver. There is one at a used car lot here and the guy wants $500. the only thing is wrong with it it the tapping sound it makes from the valve cover. I wonder if I should buy it. Thanks

If you do buy it be prepared to replace the timming chain. Not a job for the faint of heart.

it could also be low on oil(which should've been checked before thinking of buying) cz my car did that when i first bought but thank god i caught it in time and it ddin't turn into anything major , my car stil does it once in awhile when it's cold out and the engine hasn't warmed up
my two cents <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/satisfied.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':satisfied:'>
Are you SURE that's the only problem?? 500 for a nice 240sx with "only" a tapping engine sounds like a scam to me. Check the body for rust, run a carfax on it and take it for a spin... There must be something more seriously wrong with it if it's going for 500!

if its coming from the valve cover, you need to get a valve adjustment ... then go from there ,,, thats what my problem was i got a valve adjustment and it went away completely hope that helps
Or if you're lucky, it may just be your timing chain guide being slapped... in which case you may consider tightening the timing chain. ... speaking of tightening the chain, CAN you do it, and if so, HOW?
You can tighten belts right, but how about the chain? I never really gave that much thought.

The engine is SOHC. It's a 89. I am going to take it for a test drive today during my lunch break. I am going to drive it on the highway and pray I don't get stranded. LOL I will let ya'll know what I find.

The timing chain has an automatic tensioner on already and if it has streched to the point that it is making noise then no it can't be tightened
