I found a 1997 240SX LE at a dealer within a reasonable distance(150 miles). I've been searching for a 5spd SE with no luck and this 5spd LE popped up. It's got 87,000 miles on it and it's metallic gray(my favorite)...asking $8,000 but will probably do $7,000 cash(which I have). I want some opinions on if I should keep looking or if I should go for it, if it looks good when I see it tomorrow. I'm not sure if it has abs...am I loosing out by not having that and lsd and no 5 lug wheels? And the VIN is
JN1AS44D9VW103749 if anyone would be so kind as to CARFAX it. Thanks in advance, John

If it is in good shape then only you can decide if you want it or not. As for the lsd, abs and 5 lug....well the Lsd can be swapped from an infiniti j30(350 averag $ for parts) and the 5 lug swap has become very popular lately. If you don't want to take on these endevers then you may want to try and hold out for an SE model but even then not all SE's came with LSD and ABS!!

The '97-'98 LE has the SE's suspension and 5 lug 16" wheels. If it doesn't, it's a base model, or Canadian, or something.
$8000 for that car is rediculously cheap anyway, especially if it is an LE, which would have leather and a sunroof, standard.

If the car is a LE....shouldn't it come with 5 lug?
I forgot where the ABS sensor are located, but there should be a black box somewhere close to firewall on the passenger side. But you can always have one thing and not the other. My SE has LSD but no ABS.....someone else I know has ABS but no LSD.

Sounds like a dealer trade in. Not much history listed.... don't read too much into a carfax report tho, a friend of mine has been in 3 accidents and none of them listed on carfax when I checked out his car... he reported all 3 and insurance paid for the repairs... no show on carfax. With that in mind, here u go:
The CARFAX database contains a total of 2 vehicle history records on this 1997 NISSAN 240SX/LE/SE (JN1AS44D9VW103749):

There was never a "LE" model for the 95-96. Only the "base" model or "coupe" came in 4 lug for the 95-96/97-98.

1) sounds like a deal to me
2) as was said, LE is SE+ leather, etc. (check the faq for a link to the differences)
3) looks like no LSD on that car according to the old VIN method 240sx.org link (http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/limited_slip_differential.htm)

OK...I found out that it is a BASE model. For $7,000, I'll have enough left to add shocks and lowering springs right away. And by the time I have the money for the rims I want, I'll just do a 5 lug swap. So do you guys think I should still go for it if its in great shape even though it's a base??? Besides lsd and 5 lugs, am I missing out on anything important??? Thanks, John ....it's so hard to find a 5spd, so I don't know if I should get it or keep bumin' rides.

The base could have the ABS+LSD option still. They always came together on S14s, no question. S13s could have ABS by itself...
I say go for it. Sway bars should be your first suspension upgrade, because THAT'S what the 4-lug S14 really lacks - the 5-lug S14 has a rear bar while the 4-lug does not. The 4-lug's front bar is also smaller.

Well I have $8,900 cash to work with and if I can get it for $7,000, that leaves $1,900 to start on the suspension.
