Alright, can a weight expert help me out here.

I have an Auto 98se. Slow and relatively heavy compared to other 240's. I think it clocks in somewhere around 29xx something.

When I go SR, I will lose weight because I'll have a 5spd, and lose weight because I have an aluminum block versus an iron block. Does anyone know how much weight this will be, and if you know the exact weight of my car, what it theoretically should weigh after the swap?

Also does anyone know the weight distrobution of my car, and what about it would be when I go SR?

Yeah...sooo many questsions. Sorry but I know there's someone cool enough to know all this crap. If you can lead me to any links that might help me figure this out myself, that's cool too.

Manual engine and Tranny(SR) is said to weigh 4lbs less than KA tranny and Motor.

However when we swapped a friends KA with SR (stock springs) there was noticable more fender gap in the front than the back.

Putting an SR in your car will not give you any handling/weight characteristics that you would notice. That is a fact.

I think that the automatic transmission weighs about 50 more pounds than a 5-speed, and the difference in the KA and SR motor is only like 3 pounds or something close.

No. According to Sport Compact Car, and a couple individuals that have weighed their engines, it is a couple pounds. It would be a total difference of 44 pounds after you turbo the KA. All my stuff weighs in at 40 pounds even.

the only significant difference would be if you take out all the A/C stuff. That's somewhat hefty...maybe 30 lbs.

Sport Compact Car compared a KA24E to an SR20DET, though. The KA24DE is somewhat heavier than the SOHC, not by a huge margin though (20lb max).

Going auto -> manual drops 40-45lb. but doesn't affect weight distribution much if at all since all the weight is near the middle of the car.

Weight distribution of a stock S14 SE 5-speed is about 55/45; an auto might be more like 56/44.

If you swapped in an SR with a 5 speed and pitched the A/C you could easily remove 100lb. total, about 70-80lb of that over the front wheels.

I don't know about the tranny's but the SR motor w/out tranny is 80lbs lighter than the KA24DE without the tranny.

did that SR have the intercooler and tubing attached? That stuff isn't weightless...

the manual transmissions used on the SR and KA are identical except for a few minor details and the bellhousing.

Yes, it had the stock top mount on it.
