my car got hit rant

So today was my first day at my new job (not really a new job, but as some of you guys now I was voluntold to be a recruiter for the Marine Corps. So today was my first day of that.) I left my car at my new office and took the work car. My car sat in the parking lot all day and it was fine. It's a really small parking lot anyway, and I know live in a small town in the mountains with a population of like 10,000 people. Anyways I stopped at my office around 6pm to grab a few papers and then took back off in the work car. not even 10 minutes later one of the Army guys next store called me and told me someone had backed into my hatch with their big ass early 90's bronco. So I turned around and went back to my office.

When I got there the Bronco was like a foot from the front of my car, but no one was in or around either car. Finally an old man came out and apologized and said he would pay for the damages, but he didn't want to report it. He gave me his card, he's the president of a title company in the same complex. So I said fine we don't have to claim it, but you have to pay for all the parts you broke when I find them/add up the amount and he agreed. Luckily it's a small quiet town with pretty honest people. I didn't want to claim it either because it isn't a lot of damage but the insurance company would probably salvage it because it's not worth paying the money to fix. I really don't need a salvage title because an insurance company doesn't want to pay for a hood and bumper.

The damage isn't too bad. His bumper scraped the hell out of my bumper in the area of where the Nissan emblem is. the corner near the passenger headlight is ripped and it's ripped a little above the Nissan emblem. The passenger cover is dinged, but my hood is buckled quite a bit. Not to the point where it won't latch, but enough where it lifts up in the middle and you notice it right away. His bumper was high so it missed all of the bumper below that. Hell if he was going any faster he probably would of stopped until his tire was on my car.

So now I have to find a black hood, bumper and passenger headlight cover, and possibly a bumper support. I'm hoping the radiator support isn't messed up since the bumper is higher on one side than the other. Then I have to decide how much to charge him for labor since I'm going to be the one that has to replace everything. I don't want to paint anything or pay to get it painted so I need to find the parts with really good paint, it's probably not going to be too hard, but still I wish it would never of happened because I don't feel like dealing with it.

That kinda sucks but you are getting your parts paid for.

yea your lucky its a small town.. my celica was hit when it was parked outside a bar.. by 2 guys in a jeep and they ran, every witness said they were horribly drunk, funny thing is, when the cop got there he was like "yea ill go look for em but there isnt anything i can do".. WTF do you mean nothing you can do, he found them and all he could do was ask there info.. FUCKING BULLSHIT if u ask me, they hit me and were drunk and ran.. nothing the cop could do? yea right.. also they tried to claim I hit them with a honda.. good thing the cop found him

i just got hit at a party a couple of weeks back. some dumb broad backed into my front left fender. left a pretty good sized dent. i lucked out just enough that somebody local has the fender i need. still, it sucks so i feel ya.

good luck finding those body pieces in the exact colors your asking... I'm not saying it can't be done, but I'm not exactly confident it's gonna be easy and may end up taking awhile

At least the old man took responsibility for his own actions.

Someone backed into my door a few weeks ago right in front of my own house completely ruining my dingless/spotless door.

Asshole took off and pulled a hit and run.

+1 on someone actually taking responsibility. it sucks, but my car has been hit and ran 5 times in the last year, and they always flee before i get back. plus about 30 door dings in the last year. fucking fucks around here make me want to strangle them and stomp on babies. take some damn responsibility for your actions people. at least your did, and hope you find some good replacement parts.

I know I'm lucky that he stayed and didn't do a hit and run, but now that I'm back at work I'm going to have a hard time trying to take time off to search for the parts and then swapping them out. That's what I'm irritated about.

My original idea was to find a black bumper, hood, etc and just swap them out and charge the guy for the parts and my labor. Now I'm starting to think that even if I find the parts I don't know how long it's going to take and if they will even be a perfect match. I don't want the hood bumper etc to look newer or older than the rest of the car.

I think I'm going to take it to a body shop and see what they say, I know a guy that works at one in this area so maybe it will be a better idea to go that route.
I just don't want bondo on my car if I don't have to.

I'm really picky with my cars, any little scratch dent pisses me off. And I'm really worried about getting parts that blend in with my car, or if I get them painted they blend in. Which is probably going to be close to impossible since the paint will look new and my car won't. I know the hood has to be replaced for sure since it's buckled. Luckily it's not buckled bad but enough to notice.

I'll put picks up today to show you guys the damage.

Let me know what you guys would do.

Finally got the pics up. The cars dirty since my house is surrounded by pine trees and the pollen has fallen all over it. Didn't want to wash it until I get the car over to a body shop.

Ditto. I've only ever caused ONE door ding in someone else's car. I stuck around, and the guy just shrugged and said, "eh, I don't really like this car anyway. Don't worry about it." I was shocked. lol
