I've been due for alignment, I manage to get a deal on low mile oem tension rods cause mine are busted. Now I'm trying to get a deal on tie rod ends and the inners, mainly cause I have bad wheel shimmy b/w like 45-55. Can't be tires or wheels cause it's been like that b4 I had em put on last summer, and I had an alignment b4, which solved it for a while but then it came back, and when summer came is when I got new wheels and tires on, and it's still here.

I don't track my car, so I don't need angle and all that. Just oem replacement, but looking at some prices for oem type stuff, it's almost same as buying stuff with rod ends. Maybe I'm looking in wrong direction.

I see oem type for sale CHEAP on ebay but almost seems too good to be true or safe even lol.

Anyone got any places online to suggest, seems moog is popular

Moog makes good parts.
Pay up, don't be cheap or it will end up costing you more in the future.

^^ indeed

also, check your ball joints they may be worn and causing a little bit of the shimmie.

where do you live in VA? i lived in Chesapeake. I got z32 oem fronts for dirt cheap. you wont get the deal i do but i know they go for less than $100. then I bought Moog ends from autozone, or advancedautoparts.
But tie rods arent things i would wanna skimp out on.
Buy, SPLparts or kazama ends and get some z32 rods. also pick up a set of angle spacers.

Yeah, don't be stupid and get Kazama....

If you want something cheap, just get Tein inner/outer combo, it usually runs about $100 and you get extra steering angle... oooooooo

I've always had good luck with moog products. They are slightly more beefy than oem.

Thanks yea. I was just wondering whether I should get something more oem or something with rod ends and more adjustability. Thing is my car is automatic, so naturally I don't do drift events and things of that nature, but still drive it hard, and like to take turns lol.

Might just do teins when I get money right. Whats the deak about them being to strong where it can damage steering rack if you hit a curb?

emersonLP
05-30-2008, 10:15 AM
Dont hit a curb and you dont have to worry about it.

Its just that the tie rods are usually the "weakest link in the chain" but if you upgrade them, something else will be I guess.

tein inner and outer is what I run.

I like it.

Just the inner is not so beefy.

wicked tuning makes some awesome inner and ends.. they go for 129 and there damn good. at first, i was a little weary, but 3000 miles later and a lot of track days and still no problems. i would give them a try..

if you street your car get tein inner/outer, pillow ball outers are shit

i also have the wicked tie rods , have held up fine and they are just as beefy as the teins for less.

Teins are already damn near free.

How much cheaper do you people need?

hahaah.

I have a set of Tein's I'm about to toss on my s13.

If you want solid type, then go spl. Just don't adjust too much bumpsteer adjustment into them; that goes for any solid type tierod end.

Oh yeah. Don't buy Crapzama.

so does tein uses stock normal ball joint whereas spl uses solid joint. Any advantage?

Is tein ball joint hard to install, does it need a press?

from picture, spl solid joint seem like slip in and tighten whereas tein need a press. I'm looking at tie rod also. Thanks

tien is stock style. Spl is a spehrical rod end that allows for more articulation than a stock style end.

^^yes

but you can put spacers on any tie rod. it's not only teins that give you the capability to do this.

a bone stock s13, with tein tie rods (with spacer installed. duh), will be able to do a u-turn on
any regular sidestreet without problem.

i used to love it.

Yup, its true, I can vid id if you want, I can do a u-turn on the road in my subadvision, lol.

Its pretty sweet.

ive got tein and i dont get steering angle... the person who installed it said it cant be done on my s14 and cant put spacers...i guess he was stupid in stuffs like that... anyway as long as my alignment ok, im ok.

SPL s13/S14 outers with oem z32/tein z33 inners = win.

Do it right, or just don't do it.

Moog is garbage, sorry to the few posters. I bent mine in less than half a year.

Yeah see the only thing is alot of you have 5-speed to take advantage of extra adjustment. I can't really have the back end out but so many times, for fear of messing up the transmission lol. So I could never really take advantage of all that angle. Probably will just do teins.

Also zar what do you mean about not adjusting too much bumpsteer in em. Just incase I go rod end. For those at went rod end, did you go to just any regular shop for alignment, and did they know how to adjust properly?

4bangers
06-01-2008, 07:28 PM
does tein ball joint need to be press in or do they slide into the hole like spl joints?

also, more articulation, is that any advantagous?

SimpleSexy180
06-01-2008, 07:36 PM
they slide in...

no pressing.

Did anyone notice he wanted TIRE rods? LOLz.

Tein is good for OEM replacement, but my ideal choice would be Tein inner and SPL outer. For now I'm fine with Teins for daily driving...

5 speed extra adjustment what? Messing up tranny huh?

When you lower your car, the tie rods won't be straight across the spindle to the steering rack. So SPL as well as other companies that have spherical style tie rod ends allow you to adjust the bumpsteer via different sized washers.

Now if your car is slammed, you will have to put all the spacers above the tie rod to even come close to the propper bump steer adjustment.

Now that angle and pivot point causes excess stress to the spindle mount which will accelerate and increase the chances for the tie rod spline to break.
If you

No I was just saying I'm sure you could drive a manual car harder than you would a 5spd. As far as I know 5spd is more durable than automatic, unless I'm mistaken. Oh yeah didn't notice the tire rods in the title, but it made for a good laugh lol.

No I'm not slammed, don't have coilovers just springs...probably a inch drop or tad over all around.

Let me ask this, when it comes to tie rods, do spherical perform better than oem type..just based on handling. I magine it would with like ruca, tension rods, etc. where you have old stock bushings...but does it help in a similar way with tie rods?

Thanks again for all the help

Don't get wicked tuning... its like the less shitty Megan.

SPL or die trying.

Seriously, all the money people spend on replacing shitty parts (Megan, wicked, ebay) and getting alignments numerous times after the replacements, you couldn't just got one set of SPLs that doesn't suck. Live and learn. Or live the hard way and learn it even harder.

Is this for true?

Testify. Compared to my old S13, which had Tein tie rods, my current piece feels like an 18-wheeler when I make U-turns.

i have the teins there pretty cool i guess but i would have got circuit sports if i saw them when i bought the teins.

Yep, thats why I'm still on stock shit, SPL or bust.

Don't even waste time/ money on lesser products. Get good shit or just work with stock.

Hey I totally forgot to ask you lol, dunno why I didn't think of it. If it's fine for u, definitely should do for me. Now just gotta catch a deal on em, so I can hurry up and get an alignment over with.
