View Full Version : Question abou trannys.
Are S13 and S14 transmissions interchangeable? In other words, can a S13 tranny fit on a S14 engine without any problems?

yup all the same tranny's my brothers driving around on in a S13 with my 95 S14 KA in it and his old tranny
That example showed me that a s14 tranny fits on a s14 engine in a s13 chassis car... What I am wondering is does a s13 tranny fit on a s14 engine in any chassis?

Actually that example shows that an S13 tranny fits an S14 engine in an S13 chassis.

Yes all trannies between Dohc s13 and dohc s14's will work. on both s13's and s14's...or something to that effect. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

Woa, slow down, I am confused. If the SOHC and DOHC trannies are the same, then why does every clutch manufacturer make two different clutches for them? Also, I think I read a post about how the flywheel in the SOHC is lighter. (sorry to be a pain in the ass, I am just curious)

really?
are you guys sure about that?
He is right, about the clutch thing... I just put my stage 1 clutch in my s13, sohc... and the manufacturers sell a different clutch for the dohc. Flywheels are the same, fidanza sells different flywheels for them.
now you may be able to interchange them, but are they the same?
is the starter hump in the right location?
just curious... I know the dimensions are the same, but I didn't know they were identical...

ok guys, yes there are different part numbers. I have first hand experience though running a SOHC truck flywheel (240mm clutch surface vs stock 225mm) lightened. I also used a heavy duty truck clutch and I was running a 98 S14 trans on a 91 S13 engine. It all worked fine. I have seen people install early trans in S14 of course I would think that would be backwards because a S14 5 speed is usually going to have lower mileage on it. To answer the first question directly yes you can swap the trans around the different years.
The only thing to remember is you need the S13 speed sensor if the tranny is going in a S13 and vice versa.
