Steering issue

Hi guys, I have an issue with my steering. Let me describe whats going on. If I back out of a driveway onto the street, when level with the street, my steering wheel is straight. As soon as I start driving, the steering wheel starts to turns about a 1/4 turn...all while the car continues to go straight. While on the freeway, if I hit a big dip, steering wheels also shifts, but car still goes straight. I had the rack and pinion rebuilt, have new inner and outer tie rods.....can't figure out the issue. I'm thinking the shop didn't rebuild the rack properly? Or is there something else that could affect steering like this? Oh, and its on a 92 240sx SE.

I think it sounds like the rack.... If the inner and outer tie rods are new.... You can test it, just hack up te car and tug on the tie rods up and down and in and out.... See what is going on.

If you're certain that your alignment is good, check to make sure that the brackets that hold down your rack are fully tightened, and jam nuts on tie rod ends (and tension rods if applicable) are tight as well.

First thing to check (assuming good alignment) - rack bolts/bushings.

Second - probably uneven tire wear. Did you drive with a bad alignment for a while? Does it always pull the same direction, or does it switch? Same direction, with good alignment is probably tires - diff directions = rack for sure.

All bushing are new. Tires are brand new because old ones were worn unevenly. Pulling the same direction, yes and no. The wheel always jerks to the left, but right after slowly returns to the right.
