Ok, so I bought a set of matte black fn01's. Brand new, with the intention of stripping the finish, and polishing them. There shouldn't be any issues, right? As long as I sand them down, then wet sand, they should come out blinging, right?

I got 17x9 +15/17x10+15. My car is currently faded red. I'm going to pick up my friends hatch shell, which is painted gold, with a gold 6 point roll cage, and that is what the fn's are going to go on.

FYI they are pretty blingy once you strip the paint on them. Im currently stripping the paint on mine as i type. I will see if i can get some pix.

The dull spots near the bottom were exposed for quite sometime. The reason i painted them was due to the original paint cracking.

What size and offset? They look nice. They will look even nicer, after they have been polished!!

^^yeah that's a crappy picture but I can vouch for FN's not needing much polishing to be totally blingin after stripping the paint.

Weak offset and size (17x7 +40ish ). They are my temp wheels until i go 5 lug, all i need is a S14 ball joint but ive been too lazy to get that and new wheels.
And yea very crappy phone pic, i lost my digicam so thats all i have at the moment.

so what color is the best to start with? you guys say matte black, is it b/c it's not machined? or could you just strip the clear off a silver one and polish away? i guess my real question is, Is the finish under the matte black machined like the silver? thanx!

Not when you're working on the ground with no safety protection and the wind blows it back into your face.
Then again, being a careless idiot isn't as glamorous as it seems.

Another option I was thinking about, was stripping the finish, then having the rims straight chrome dipped. That would be straight blingin son!!! Wonder if anyone did that yet...

i wouldnt waste my time or money to chrome them, the local chrome sucks cause its too thin and they prep it junk so alot of things i seen chrome start to lift or easily chip... that polished pair looked sick i'd go with that

Once you strip the black coating/protectant, be prepared for the alloy to start oxidizing. Unless you feel like polishing them often, you better coat them with something good.

aircraft stripper sucks, flat out.
go to wal mart, get this stuff called Dad's Paint stripper, something like that.
shit works. I couldn't afford to have my car sand blasted, and didn't feel like sand blasting it myself, I used it on my quarter panels, trunk and roof and it did great! Takes about 10 minutes to set in, although a bit messy, it's worth it. Just make sure you use thick rubber gloves, goggles, and are outside.
edit: also, you want to do something about the wheel now, it's not just bare metal is it? that would be bad, stuff like grease and other contaminants can get into the metal. You want to use a nice metal sealer that will give it a flat clear finish, and still allow you to see the polished surface. but that's just me.

i'm about to strip my 17x10 fn's. a person i know striped his about a month ago. they look good. he used some wallmart spray striper.
spray on, let sit for 3-5 min. spray on again and then just wipe off.
take 2000 grit sand paper and Mothers mag polish to them.
