push button start not working...

just the other day my s13 was starting nice and smooth.
but, i decided to be curious george and disconnect one of the plugs from the relay to see if it would start (and it didnt start*what a dumba** i was :ugh:*). so, i reconnected it and left it and thought that nothing went wrong.
but....
today the car didnt start...anyone know what went wrong by just disconnecting one plug from the relay?
i figured that i either burned out a wire, relay, or fuse somewhere but i dont know where to look.
also when i attempt to start the car all i hear is a click from the relay.

you mean the relay by the battery? did you disconnect or reconect with power on? a clicking relay is good. better check your fuses carefully. year and model of car in subject line.

Which relay? Reconnect the best you can and make sure it's tight. Check fuses and fusible links first. Then check back.

its an 89' with a dohc conversion.
the relay is separate from the engine bay ones..i dont think its the battery one.
somehow i think the problem lies in the fuses, might have burnt one out being an idiot...

If the relay is clicking, then the solenoid coil is fine. Do a continuity test on the relay poles if you can. Pushbutton start... does it use an aftermarket relay?

yes it is a radio shack kind of push button start and im using aftermarket relays..worked great until i messed around with it.
no i dont here the solenoid clicking, i think its just not getting power to the starter at all.
the relay is making the clicking noise.

Sorry, i meant the solenoid within the relay. Any coil of wire used to activate a linear rod such as in a starter or a relay is a solenoid. You thought i meant the starter. Okay, you should find out what type of relay it is. a SPST (single pole single throw, or DPDT (double pole double throw). You should see those abbreviations on the relay itself. If there is no clicking noise in the relay, then you have no power going to it, or the solenoid in the relay fried.... which is easy to do. But if you do in fact hear clicking in the relay, it still could be damaged to some degree. If it is a DPDT, you could have burnt one of the two solenoids. You should get a multimeter for your tool box. Very valuable tool to have.

it clicks. but there is no id on the relay itself.
im guessing its a SPDT it has 4 prongs and is 12V 30A.

I'll tell you right now. This problem will be very difficult to diagnose over the Internet because your wiring is not stock and we have no idea what it looks like.

You prolly blew the ignition fuse in your fuse box from your engine bay.

what should i run the multimeter on.
i cant figure it out!!! damn seems like a billion wires.
im starting to think that the solenoid is not getting enough amps/power..

for the push button to work in my s14 i needed to add a relay and cut the start wire in 1/2

what's the volts on your battery? disconnect your negative, check for continuity (ohms) from the starter to the push button when you push on the button. if the positive wires aren't making a connection, then isolate the location by eliminating items. test shorter distances to make sure it connects

or just make sure all your wires have good connections or the button it self is messed

QFT...or just pick up a decent electronic one from anywhere cheap and don't look back.

I have recently bought one...never thought I needed it...UNTIL NOW, when I now know many of my previous problems would have been solved much quicker.

YouTube has a lot of multimeter instructions.

Ok guys he called me up and told me that he got it to work..

I think he said one of the wires to the starter came loose or something.

I am hoping it was unplugged by you rather than just came off. An ignition wire (or pretty much anything coming off a relay) I would hate to have short.
