ive been noticing in the past few days that when my turbo spools up there is a whistling noise that is different from what i have ever heard. i know what it sounds like when my car spools up but this sounds different. it spools with the turbo but it is a whistling sound. i think it might be a vacuum leak but i just would like any other suggestions as to what i should check while im doing a leak test.

Is it boosting strong? If it's falling off at all from what you've set, either stock boost or through a BC, it's likely just a leak.

its all stock. i havnt changed anything. i have been running not recirculated setup though. and when i did my boost gauge i teed it to a line no knowing that it went to my bov as well and it messed it up a lil. since then i put the recirculating pipe back on.

Check your turbo to manifold bolts. My friends car made a noise like that when he had an exhaust leak there. You couldn't really hear an audible leak when it was idling or anything.

Also how much boost are you running? If you're running the upper limit of what the turbo can handle it could be a sign that it is about to go.

^^ Never mind you said you're running stock boost. ^^

try switching the spot where the vacuum line hooks up. if its hooked up wrong it will open simultaneously with the throttle. you will of course hear the whistle sound, boost will read normal. but the life of your turbo will not be as long. watch the piston on the BOV if its opening when you give it gas at all.

Hey I have the exact same thing going on with my sr20 too....when it starts to spool up its like a whistling sound but almost is like a croaking whistle, I thought it was my wastegate first. I'm running stock turbo and a Sarrd R2D2 blow off valve and I can't figure out what it is and the people I have asked have no idea. It goes to full boost fine and doesn't spike so I need help figuring it out too

check the vac line to your boost gauge

Ive had that same sound two times, its the sound of the turbo gasket rattling. Get ready to replace it. :(

Dont jump the gun now... Im 99.9% sure its the inlet gasket rattling, check to see if all your bolts are there. Maybe some bolts rattled loose and now you have a small gap between the manifold and the turbo.

22-29 ft/lbs per FSM for the turbo-->manifold nuts and 22-31 ft/lbs for the downpipe.
