They had people studying them as alien weapons and how they bent light and how they were so smooth and perfect but so old that no technology from that century existed to make that kind of thing. the trick is you have to place 12 skulls in a circle around stonehenge and put the allmighty powerful skull in the middle and it blasts the asteroid (or whatever is going to kill us) to bits. Actually what the Mayan's plotted out in 2012 is a lining of up of the solar system with the center of our Galaxy. Now the theory is there may be a polar shift as the earth has polar shifts every few million years. Though they also say polar shifts don't happen in one day but do so over a series of years.
A few facts about the Mayan calender.

Depends on how you define "dying" and "coming back to life". Many people have "died" on the operating table and "came back to life". It wouldn't be that far off if there was an attempt, he dies on the table, and then is revived. Again, speculation. I'm not trying to pick a fight or insult anyone. I dont know exactly how long the sun has to live but im sure its thousands of years, so were probably going to end up killing ourselves before then.
