View Full Version : major clutch problems! squeeks, stalls, loss and increase in pedal pressure

So it seems almost everything that can go wrong suddenly went wrong with my Blitz single stage clutch/flywheel (S14 SR)

Clutch and TOB, and rear main oil seal were replaced about 20K miles ago, so they're relatively new. Also took out damper and replaced with taka SS line. and car doesn't see any abuse really. No drifting/clutchkicks/slipping.

Today I was driving along and noticed that every time the pedal was depressed, it would squeek or squeal until the clutch was engaged.

Shortly after that, clutch pedal pressure increased, but sometimes it stays stuck half way down.

And several minutes after THAT, every time i press the clutch pedal down, RPMS rapidly drop and the car will shut off. If i'm at a stand still and push the clutch pedal down, i'll instantly stall out if I dont give it gas immediately (happens both in gear between shifts and in neutral)

Also, the engagement point and stiffness of the clutch have both changed unexplicably. and sometimes the clutch will slip after 3 or 4K rpm if i'm accelerating at WOT/close to WOT.

This all happened within a 5 minute span of time by the way.

I checked the reservoir, plenty of fluid. No leaks from the hardlines or slave. The sqeek/squeal sounds like it may be my TOB, and i'm going to bleed the clutch tomorrow morning, but I'm wondering what all these other problems might mean?

plus the clutch and TOB are relatively new...which is why it boggles me most of all.

anyways, any insight or suggestions would be much appreciated. thanks everyone.

UPDATE:
fantastic, my car no longer starts!

so i went down to the garage to see if anything may have changed after the car cooled down, tried to start the car up, and it wont even start.

It turns over once, maybe twice, very slowly, and after that the starter just clicks rapidly. I tried it several times, gave it gas, nothing changed, 2 or 3 turnovers very slowly followed by rapid starter clicks.

Now I'm really confused. Hope someone has some idea or input. Thanks as always

any ideas?

I bled the clutch, and checked battery and its still at full. anything else i can check before i just drop the tranny and have to open it up?

for the no start problem check the ground cable.

also check for a leaky slave cylinder or a leak on the line somewhere, even if they are new. Those are usually is unless you did something to the pressure plate or stripped the teeth that go on the transmission spline.

hmm, the clutch really has nothing to do with the engine being able to run, as long as your not in gear. First i would try to jump it.
From everything you said, it sounds like your input shaft seized to you crank, never heard of that so its more likely you have other problems.

The only way to find out is to pull the tranny off and look at it.

xsparc- well the not starting issue seems to be caused by whatever the whole clutch/tranny problem is. clutch pedal in = RPM drop to 0, clutch overly stiff, slips a little now, etc.
i did try jumping it and i did try a new battery, neither made any difference.

rnz520- i did check the lines very thoroughly when i bled the clutch lines for leaks, im almost positive there are no leaks.
I guess I'll have to open my tranny and just inspect it and order parts accordingly =/

I was just hoping maybe someone had the same problem so I could order parts ahead and have minimal downtime.
oh well.
thanks everyone for suggestions
