so I've been having this problem when it's hot outside, or when I drive for a while and stop. my starter doesn't turn over.

new battery
New battery connections, twice over.
new starter relay
clutch interlock switch works

I'm pretty sure its the starter because when I turn the key I think can hear the starter click, underhood relay clicking, as well as another in cabin relay.
If I try to do this fast it will do this multiple times, then the underhood relay & starter will stop clicking altogether for a bit

i've pretty much narrowed it down to the starter, just dbl checking for insight before I buy a new one

If it's for an SR, get it rebuilt! I know some guys in the Valley (Grand Rebuilders) that rebuilt mine pretty cheap. I don't know what KA starters go for...

but yeah if you're hearing the relays and the starter solenoid, and you don't have any other problems, it's the starter motor itself.

Follow the ground from your neg battery terminal to the ground on the body, and make sure its snug and rust/corrosion free if you havent already.

Oh, you can whack the starter with a hammer and see if it starts.. if it does your solenoid is bad.

My starter was bad.. i would hear it click, and it would start if i played with the clutch switch.

Replaced the starter ($150 at checkers) and its fine now, starts up right away.

Def sounds like a Bad starter, Just buy a new one from the local parts store if its a KA. At least you get a warranty with it.

Cool beans

I'm actually ordering one online from grand rebuilders for a KA.
not trying to get used as it might fail again

I have minor concern about the starter housing because i've read some people have issues with it, but if it's a different one I'm thinking about just swapping out the housing.

thanks guys

I wouldn't buy online. B/C if it goes bad again its going to cost you shipping and ETC and a week or 2 of delay. Your local parts store will be as good as any for a starter. Nothing special there.

Agreed, but the local parts store wants $150

I am paying less than half that.

I just replaced mine for my KA. two weeks ago. Same issue.
I bought a new one online from CaliforniaStarterand alternator. They are in LA. they charged me $90 shipped. with a 1 year warranty.

I took my old one and rebuilt it.
Just opened it up, cleaned the brushes and scuffed up and housings and painted them black.
If you have the time, i recommend rebuilding your old one.
or you can buy mine for $40 shipped if your in Socal.

or just pm me and ill tell you how to rebuild yours.
good luck!

Grand Rebuilders is nice because they'll rebuild shit on the spot. And if you're local to Socal, you can order online but then deal with them in person if you have any problems. I dig em. Glad you got your shit sorted Anto.

Edit: welcome to 3-digit rep!
